Zentangle® Mooka, Fugu, and an Inchie

Laura, from I am the Diva, asked us to add "a-bit-o-black". Well, that sounded like a lot of fun. I thought I would use some Mooka and see where it would lead me. I added some Jetties to continue the theme.
The focus tangle over at Square One on Facebook is to use Fugu by CZT Sonya Yencer. I added a bit of Knightsbridge, Printemps, and Fescu.
And, the prompt word over at Every Inchie Monday is 3-D. Here is my rendition of the kind of 3-D glasses that were available when I was a child.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I really enjoy reading your comments!

    1. Thank you, Mariet. I do love playing with Mooka. It was the hardest tangle, well except for some of those mathematical ones, for me to learn which direction to go in. But, I liked it too much to give up.

    1. Thank you, Simone. I am usually drawn to simple compositions and try really hard not to fill in the whole tile. Not always easy though!

  7. Very nice contrasts white/black in both of your tiles. Indeed it is not so easy to draw Mooka in a nice way but I like yours of this week very much.

    1. I filled up sheet after sheet trying to get Mooka in my muscle memory. There are a lot of people who do Mooka more gracefully, Ria, but I'm happy with the flow that I am now comfortable with.

  8. Love your black Mooka which also have jetties tangled into them. Great 3D glasses, I do remember them too.

    1. I think we even had 3-D comic books, YT, that would give you a headache! Thanks!

  9. I've always wondered what those 3D glasses look like - having usable vision in only one eye 'ive never been able to see - good idea

    1. Yes, Kia, exactly like this. Well, maybe just a tad more even to actually fit on a real face :)

  10. I'm trying to imagine what the effect of the 3D glasses would be on your Square One tile! Really fun pieces.

    1. I wonder if they still make them like that, Freebird? If not, I'll bet they are worth a lot of money. (Kind of like all those comic books we tossed...ARGH!)

  14. The "bit of black" really brings Mooka to life and gives it a new look. I agree that it was fun to have a challenge that wasn't as much of a challenge as some of them have been lately. It was pleasant to sort of coast for a week.

    1. I agree, Suzanne, it was nice to just express ourselves a bit more boldly this week without any stress. More Zen like.

  15. Wow, Jean, cool stuff. I see where the Jetties repeats...one of these days I'm going to "get" Mookah. Fugu is totally new to me. I didn't even think about the glasses, although I seem to have a small collection of 'em, arrived with a Disney flick somewhere along the line. But, ugh, they're PLASTIC! Not like those cool paper ones at all. I'm banishing the "O" word from my dictionary. Hugs, CHeryl

    1. Seriously, Cheryl, I spent weeks just doing Mooka over and over on scratch paper until the muscle memory set in. And, I'm not a perfectionist LOL! (Good thing!)

  17. Hi Jean! I too love your Mooka. What a great idea. After you learn a tangle really well you can do stuff like that. I'm finally sort of getting there. And the Fugu? I'm guessing it's the one that looks like little homemade hand pies? I don't know that one at all. Your 3D glasses are wonderful. I don't remember ever having those or using them anywhere. But it is a great inchie.

    1. Melena, I looked for the link to Fugu and can't seem to find it :( But, I don't think you really need step-outs. It is the one that looks like moon pies and you can aura them as well. They are very simple and come with a side order of tipple in the original step-outs by Kelley Kelly.
I always encourage my students to take one tangle and mess with it as many ways as they can think of. It's a great exercise.
Guess you have to be the "O" word to have know what those original paper 3-D glasses looked like LOL!

  18. Just love your tangles and the inchie. Note to self, must practice tangles, mine are very untidy.

    1. Tidy, not tidy. Doesn't matter with Zentangle, Wendy. The point is to relax, enjoy, create. The end result is not the goal at all. So, no practice, just do and while you're at it, appreciate the pen, materials, and the time you have given yourself.

  23. Wow, you are getting the black thing going all around! I love these, and how you morphed Mooka into the Jetties! Keeping your Fugu light and adding the black contrast with Knightsbridge is brilliant. And...weren't those 3D glasses the most fun!

    1. It's interesting, Donna, that sometimes a comment makes me go back and look at my tile with fresh eyes. Your comment made me do that and I was almost surprised at what I saw. I usually finish tangling and then don't pay much attention to the completed project. We all should remember to go back an appreciate whatever we have done more often. Thank you for that push :)

  25. Like the Mooka/Jetties combination. I used Jetties also. Just reversed it but I like your sparkle. Your Square One tile has a little steam punk quality. I have not done any of those for a while. Maybe will be able to get back to them some time.

    1. I should try Jetties reversed, Donald. That would be a good challenge for Laura to use one day, reverse the fills. Isn't it funny how tiny dots do seem to turn things into Steampunk? Thanks Donald, and we'd love to see some Square One from you too!
