Zentangle® Zingo, MI2, and Some Copic Fun With Tangles

This week over at I am the Diva, the challenge is to use Zingo. This tangle was presented to us by the lovely Indy and Mazzy, Molly's little darlings. Fun tangle to learn from these really great teachers!
I used a traditional white Zentangle tile, Zig Millennium and colored pencils.

The focus tangle from Square One on Facebook is MI2, by Mimi Lempart, CZT. I allowed a few Hollibaugh boards to slide into this one.

And, instead of my Zentangle journal this week, I thought I would share a couple of pieces showing what a difference just a few changes can make to a finished piece by "breaking" the rules (or just modifying the stepouts).
The tangles used are Floatfest by Carole Ohl CZT, Garlic Cloves by Jacquelien Bredenoord, and Bunzo.
These were colored with Copic Markers. The technique used is called Bokeh.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I always enjoy reading your comments!

  1. I always like your Tangles Jean but really, really liked your breaking the rules! It's something I want to do more of but I get into things and keep forgetting!

    1. Trudi, I think that, as a teacher, it is important to remind people that wherever a tangle takes them, it was the right place to go. There are no rules in Zentangle, only suggestions. However, one does not have to really break any rules to do Zentangle either. The only real "rule" is to enjoy what you are doing.

  2. I'm so glad there's a rule breaker out there. Gives me something to aim for. LOL Beautiful tiles Jean. I love what you did with Zingo. And your Square One tile is great. I love how MI2 wraps around Hollibaugh. I think your "rule breaking" tile is gorgeous. I'm going to have to learn more about Copic Markers, not that I'll use them anytime soon though (too much else to do). The colors are beautiful.

    1. Melena, if you ever decide to get into Copics, let me know first and I can save you a lot of time and money by giving you a few tips. I love my Copics, but it is an expensive coloring form. I would suggest colored pencils first. Baby steps, LOL!

    1. I would agree that the "traditional" way of doing the tangles is "prettier", but it is just so much fun, for me anyway, to step out of the usual now and then, Ilse.

  12. Hello Jean,
you present us beautiful tiles - as always. Thank you for sharing your experience with Bokher with us - I had to try the same on my letter tiles on primed Aqurall paper. I've 'colored out with cotton swabs and water and it has worked. You can see it under the link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/142276900@N05/33398949266/in/datetaken-ff/
Kind regards from Germany and a good week

    1. Part of the reason that I do the "purely" Zentangle challenge is because I must stay true to the black and white of the original kind of tangling. I need to do that or, as you can see, I must explode with color, LOL! Thanks so much, Annemarie!

    1. There's lots of great free tutorials out there, Jennifer, for coloring with Copics. That's how I learned. I wouldn't want to give anyone a heart attack looking at my work space. It can be a bit claustrophobic sometimes with all the hobbies squished into one room, LOL!
