Zentangle® Rain Challenge, Inchie, and a Thank You!

Well, as they say, you could have knocked me over with a feather! I won the Diva birthday giveaway for The Book of Zentangle® by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. What a great surprise! Thank you, Laura!

This week, Laura Challenged us to use the official tangle pattern Rain. I love Rain but seldom use tangles that use up lots of ink, cheap as I am LOL! So, it was nice to be pushed into using it.

For this week's Inchie, the prompt was Jolly-boat. As you know, I like to mess with the word but this one was plain and simply a type of ship's boat in use during the 18th/19th century. So I stuck with that but at least made mine really "jolly"! I can't wait to see, after posting, what others came up with for this one.

  2. Love all your work! Your jolly boat is precious. Mine is done - but who knows when I will scan it. This time of year at school is busy to say the least.

  6. Nice, bold Rain. Do you only use the 01, or do you use wider nib pens? I like using the 03, 05, and 08 if I'm doing more coloring. I think they cover better, and I like to save my 01s for my line work. :-)

Congrats on winning the book. Isn't it lovely?

    1. Yes, Emily, I do have pens with thicker nibs that do work better for filling. The trick is finding them when you need them LOL!

  17. I love your Rain tile. I have always been partial to Rain and so when I saw your tile I thought: exactly. A tile full of Rain needs nothing else, especially when it has as much movement as yours.

    1. Jennifer, it's funny that you said that. I didn't even consider adding anything else to the tile and I didn't really think about it. Rain is such a bold tangle and yet it seems to disappear in many of the tiles that include other tangles. I wonder why? Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

  19. Love looking at your inchies, they always make me smile :) Know what you mean about tangles which need a lot of colouring in expensive ink.... I don't find colouring with black to be half as relaxing as doing it with colours anyway :) Linda

    1. You're right, Linda. I should have pulled out some colors. I just got into the real "Zen" zone on this one though. Maybe next time :)

  21. Lovely rain and the inchie is to die for. I know what you mean about using up ink. I'm kind of reluctant to do tangles that use up so much!

  22. We must be opposites, some of my favourite tangles are the ones with lots of colouring in. i find it very relaxing as long as I don't have an approaching deadline.

    1. Since I am a CZT, I often feel like I should use the traditional black and white. I like color too and often do ZIA's, just not for the challenges too much. Take a peek at my art journals and Copic pages and you will see TONS of color. I agree that working with color is very relaxing as well. Thanks for your comment :)

    1. Yes, Annette. It is wonderful how we have become such a community of people that "know" each other and care for each other. Wouldn't it be great to have a huge party somewhere (Hawaii comes to mind LOL) where we could all meet?

  25. I laughed at your honesty about the ink in Rain!! And agree...but you certainly didn't stint. It looks so good just as it is! And what a jolly, Jolly ship! Love it! Axxx

  27. I love the way Rain overlaps in your tile. And your shading is lovely.

  28. You're certainly right about Rain using up so much ink, Jean. But when it comes out with so much depth and movement as yours has, it's well worth it. The shading really adds to the overall effect, too.

And Congrats on winning the Diva's prize.
