Zentangle® Some Dangles, Arukas and an Inchie

Since we must use a white tile and do traditional Zentangle on Square One, I enjoyed pulling out a tan tile for this week's Diva Challenge, Umble. I used to really dislike the tan tiles as they are much more delicate and don't take to vigorous scrubbing with a blending stump. As you may know, I love shading my tangles. I have learned to just be a bit more gentle and I do love the soft look of the tangles done on the tan tiles now.
More traditionally, the tile for the Facebook group, using Arukas and a bit of a modified Printemps, gave me my much loved shading opportunities.
And, finally, the prompt word for Every Inchie Monday is "apple". It's nice to be the apple of someone's eye :)
Thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy reading your comments.

  2. Lovely tiles! I was looking at umble for last week's challenge! I didn't realize you are in the greater Phoenix area. I saw that your workshops are in Peoria. I'll have to come take one of your classes! I'm in Scottsdale. 😊

    1. Now that is exciting. How wonderful it would be to get you on the right road to Zentangle. I would so love to meet you! If you can't make a Friday class, we can always meet at Crossroads another day.

  7. Clever, clever inchie! Square One tile rules as usual. What about finger blending on the tan tiles? Same as with stumps? Anyway, looks gorgeous.

    1. Fingers don't really budge the charcoal, Zoe. It is very different paper to work with. I have to learn not to give up too easily with materials that force me to think a little :) Thank you!

    1. I have some gray somewhere, Annemarie, and if I can ever find it, I really want to do some on that too.

  10. Jean, your Umble(s) look like they are happy hanging ornaments. I haven't tried the tan tiles yet. Are they the same paper as the Zendala tiles? I kind of over extended myself time wise with my Umble. I guess I wasn't humble enough. (Having lived in England, I'm having a hard time not hearing "Umble" as a cockney version of "Humble".) Very nicely shaded Arukas with a sprinkling of Printemps. I also enjoy fooling around with Arukas. I have to take a 4 hour continuing legal education course next week. I expect to look like I'm assiduously taking notes while tangling Arukas all over the page. :)

    1. You know, when you ask this, I realize that I do not have any of the round tiles in tan. So, I really don't know. I guess I should order some to play. For some reason, I have never gotten into using the round tiles as I like to use a compass and design my own zendalas. Isn't it fun to have the time to just sit with one tangle and play? I hope you come up with some exciting new ways to use Arukas.

  11. Hi Jean - I love your Diva tan tile! It has a very exotic look to it, and very festive at the same time! I agree about the tan tiles - I am still learning as I go too :)

    Have a great week J <3

  15. Your Diva tile looks like the kind of earring/pendant set I would own. And you did a fine job with the shading on both that piece and the Arukas. Cute Inchie too.

  17. Like your Umble mobile. I agree about the Renaissance tiles. I also had not used one for a while because had been posting in Square One. You are consistently one of the first one's to get their tiles posted. You must be retired.

  18. Jean - your mobiles are wonderful!! So pretty and your other ones are lovely too!!! :)

  20. Nice work, all. I love your Umble done in hanging ovals - great on a renaissance tile! And though I don't do "inchies", I laughed when I saw your comment of being an apple of someone's eye!

  23. Jean, we can always count on you for going in a different direction for the EIM...I try not to peek at anyone's work there until after I've done mine as I can get offbeat a bit as well. Nicely drawn work. I have yet to try any of the official Zentangle materials, the tan ones must really require concentration, and I suppose that's part of the idea, right? Must give 'em a try! Have a brilliant day! c

    1. I never look either, Cheryl, for the same reason. I am actually disappointed if someone does the same one I did LOL! I used to cut all of my own tiles until one day I realized that I was cheating myself of an important part of Zentangle. Now, I only use the "real" tiles unless I am doing ZIA. I find that the quality materials do slow you down as they have a lovely drag added to the pen strokes. Do try some one day.
