Zentangle® Crux, Ruutz, and an Inchie

This week over at I am the Diva it is a Use My Tangle with a tangle called Crux by Henrike Bratz. I'm not overly fond of grid tangles. I find they require a bit more precision than my style allows, but I was determined. Turned out that I really liked working with this since Henrike showed so many fun possibilities for altering the look of this tangle. I used a Renaissance tile and added some color with blue and brown colored pencils, Sepia Pitt pastel, white charcoal pencil and just a dot in the centers of white acrylic paint pen.
Facebook's Square One has a focus tangle of Ruutz by Eni Oken. I used it in a wide style to add other tangles. I also added a technique I learned from Sonja Yencer of a muted twisted Hollibaugh behind it.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word is Monkey. Did you ever play Monkey in the Middle when you were a child? I really didn't like being the one in the middle as my athletic skills were less than stellar!

Thank you for stopping by. I enjoy reading your comments!

    1. Thanks, Ilse. I try to come up with something different, not always successfully LOL) when I work on tiles. I also find it fun to present the tile in a different orientation that the way I originally began.

  3. I absolutely love your gorgeous Cruz tile. Tile is the right word - I'd have these in my house in a flash!! And a very lovely Ruutz for the Square One challenge. Guess what, we played 'Piggy in the Middle' but I love your little inchie regardless of the animal.
Sorry I've not been commenting recently. I have struggled to gain access to our PC (too many children in my house) and if I comment from my phone, it duplicates it which really irritates me! I've been looking and enjoying though. Axxx

    1. I guess it does look like a tile. Maybe Spanish in style. I never heard it called piggy in the middle. Fun to know. I can remember locking myself in the bathroom to do important things when my children were little. But, once they grow, even though you will have use of your computer whenever you want and you will then be able to find the scissors and tape, you will miss them so much :)

    1. I get up early, Cheryl LOL! Childhood was not my favorite time of life. I couldn't wait to be an adult so I could act childish without the trauma!

  7. Great job on that Diva tile. I love the nice colors and harmony is a great way to put it. It looks like it was meant to be there that way. But it's not heavy or oppressive, but lighthearted and gently brushes the page. Nice job! Sarah.

    1. Thank you so very much, Sarah, for your sweet comment. I have to be honest and say that I seldom love my own work, but I do love this one, so that's good, yes?

    1. Oh, yes, now I do remember hearing my children call it that. At least it wasn't quite as mean as dodge ball!

  11. Your UMT tile could be used as a ceramic tile. I can imagine and kitchen splash-back being tiled with it. Stylish and understated with pops of colour. Lovely.

    1. I didn't think of that while I was working one it Miss L, but I agree. Grid tangles do tend to look that way though.

    1. Thank you, Annemarie! Since we had done stripes, it was kind of in my head to use tangles to be strings for tangles in a stripe style.

  16. I love your Crux tile Jean. I agree with the others that it looks like a Spanish tile, or Moorish. It would look beautiful as a back splash for the stove. I don't know the tangle Ruutz at all. But I love what you did with it. I also love the shadow tangle in the background. I just learned a technique using the gray shadows. I did a little bit of it on my tile. Never heard of Monkey in the Middle or Piggy in the Middle. If it's keep-away, that's probably what I knew it as. I wasn't very adept at that kind of thing either.

    1. Ruutz is really pretty when done in the style that Eni designed. You know I can't leave well enough alone though LOL! The gray style is fun. I got the PDF and have played with it a bit. I enjoy learning something new, but ten to move on quickly. I don't think, it sounds like, that many of us "artistic" types were very athletic LOL!
