The Challenge at I am the Diva is to use only straight lines. I had to smile as she suggested doing Crescent Moon with only straight lines. Any of my students can tell you that I recommend pushing all tangles to the limit, including changing curves to straight lines starting with Crescent Moon. Studies like this give you power over "OOPS" (which doesn't happen in Zentangle). I learned this from Suzanne McNeill, CZT, who assures us that she has created many new tangles from improvising on an oops. So, I had been thinking of Showgirl a lot this week and decided to push it. If you change a tangle a bit it is called a variation, if you change it a lot it is called a tangelation, and if you change it so much that the original tangle is totally unrecognizable, it is now a new tangle. I believe I may have done that. If this tangle already exists, please let me know and I will give that person proper credit. I named my tangle Zenga because it reminds me of a popular, balancing of wood pieces, game :)Here is the tile again with the step outs. As you can see, one section I allowed Zenga to repeat as a fill and then break off. I added some Static and inner aura triangles.
And, Every Inchie Monday has a prompt word of Briefcase. Well, this one was so hard to find something different. Finally, I found that there was a reality show called The Briefcase at one time. From what I read about it, it was a cruel show that offered down and out families a briefcase full of money that they needed badly. Then, they presented them with a family that needed it more than they and asked them to give some or all to the other family. For some reason, they thought people would be amused at seeing this. DeleteI don't think I've seen Zenga before, but you rely on my memory at your own risk----as I often do. ;-) I like Zenga and your variation of the Zenga breaking off sections. After all, that's pretty much how real life works which is why we (I?) spend so much time trying to keep "it" together. Showgirls is a new one for me. I like that too. Your description of the Briefcase show makes it sound like a good one to have missed. I prefer my TV watching to be an escape.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that anyone really thought it was a good idea to torment people publicly on a TV show! It would have been fun if they kept it like the old show, The Millionaire. I remember that one as being a bit more motivational.

Deletewhat a cruel show that must have been -- that reminds me now of that more recent show where everyone was given a briefcase and only oe had all the money in it. They had to decide which briefcase to keep or give away or something -- was it called who wants to be a millionaire? or something like that I don't know because I never watched it because I hate game shows where people lose things-- come to think of it I virtually never watch game shows. Wish I'd thought of that show when I was making my inchie. Briefcase was hard - good idea!

DeleteAhhhh! I see what you mean about this Inchie being a real challenge to come up with something. You did a great job on it! I hardly watch TV at all, so I never saw that show.......thank goodness. Your Diva Challenge turned out great! I love your tile. I'm going to have to try out your tangle Zenga. Looks like a fun one to do. Kind of reminds me of BB, but not. Your Garlic Cloves is great. I love how you pushed Showgirl onto the edge like that. It worked out well. Somehow that one gives me trouble and they always end up squared off. I'll have to try again.
ReplyDeleteI really like this Diva Challenge and ended up doing 2 tiles for it this morning. I used Trimonds on the first tile but I did it different so it turned into a variation or a tangelation - not sure which. But when I went to upload them I put the 2nd one up 1st and the 1st one up 2nd. LOL - No mistakes in Zentangle, right?
My hubby takes control of the TV so we watch shoot 'em ups kind of stuff. It's a great time for me to knit and spindle spin though :) I was excited about today's challenge too. I was having trouble focusing as I wanted to do about a trillion different things LOL!
DeleteGosh that tangle looks very complicated. Love the inchie, I don't watch television much so I don't know if the show was ever on UK television. My husband is the remote controller, which is why I go to my studio.
ReplyDeleteIt's really a simple tangle, Wendy. I have difficulty with some of them myself, but this one is easy if you just keep turning the tile and repeating the one motion over and over. My hubby loves company in the evening, so I always sit with him. That's how I get my knitting done :)

Completely different but very nice is your tile for Square one, I love the black accents on this tile.
Nice INchie, but really, I wouldn't know what to do with such a lot of money. I am satisfied about my own life. I think giving a lot to our 2 children and the rest to good projects for animals and fugitives.
I usually try to not be too chatty, Ria. I don't want my followers to fall asleep looking for the challenge LOL! I have noticed that, for me, adding a bit more black seems to wake up my tiles. And, I am happy that you have a lovely life and would find others to benefit from the money. When one of my son's was little, he asked what would happen if we won the lottery. I told him it would ruin our lives. However, my hubby just keeps buying the tickets as he has big dreams :)

DeleteYour tiles are great Jean and love your Zenga. It reminds me of Biscus but with rectangles. Never heard of the Briefcase program but that would be an interesting concept for sure. One might want to have faith in the old adage, what you give away comes back to you 10 fold! 😉

DeleteYour Zenga does remind me of Biscus.... which is one tangle I used today! Biscus is made up of triangles instead of rectangles. But I really like how you 'blew up' the tangle!

DeleteAs always Jean - you think out of the box - I love your briefcase full of money - what a great concept and I've never heard of that TV show - as you say probably cruel, but as everyone else it seems my hubby has the controller and he's usually watching football so I just get on with my "thing" or knit when we do watch something together. Great tangles - I'll have to try that one Zenga - I guess once you start and get into the flow it gets easier.

We both have other interests that keep us busy all day. I don't really mind just relaxing with my yarn or pencils at night. Have you done Showgirl, Jenny? I think Zenga "feels" the same.

DeleteYour garlic cloves - showgirl cross is an interesting mix that works well on your tile. The Briefcase was recently tried on Australian TV. I think it only lasted a few episodes before it was, thankfully, taken off air. And thanks for being a regular visitor to my blog. ;)
