Zentangle®, Noom, Pico, and My New Tangle, Puffin

I was happy to see Noom show up as the challenge on I am the Diva this morning. I have never felt such a need to try a tangle in the round, what fun it was too. (I admit to having drawn a circle in pencil as a string to work on. Otherwise this would not have wound up in the round!) This is a great tangle to separate other tangles on a tile as well.
I added my newest tangle, Puffin, in the middle. As you can see, this can be worked grid/dot style or totally free form.
The focus tangle on Square One on Facebook is to use Pico by Staub Korn (step-outs only available on Facebook). This is a great tangle that has so many possibilities. I squeezed three into this busy looking tile.
And, just to make sure you're still awake, for fun and color, here's Aquafleur worked over a stencil with Sandy Steen Bartholomew's tangle Buttercup all done in Copic markers.
Thanks so much for stopping by I always enjoy reading your comments. Actually, that's the main reason I do a blog. How about you?

    1. Joyce, I would really love to see your finished Puffin. I named it after that cute little fat bird because I thougt the shape resembled it, LOL!

  2. Hi Jean. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting, appreciate what you thought of it and how to help it. Now, about your Zendala-like presentation: nice boarder with Noom and I see you like to make variations too, like me. Yours is very nice. I like it.

    1. Yes, Duane, I so enjoy seeing what tangles can do besides the obvious. I always enjoy seeing others do that as well. I don't usually have success in trying to push tangles into the round, but I think this one is very easy to use that way.

    1. Some days, soft colors appeal to me, Miss L, but I must have been in a joyfully bold mood when I colored that one :)

  5. Love your wonderful Diva Zendala with a well drawn Noom and a beautiful new tangle (I have added Puffin already on my personal legend)
The other Zendala is also a real little jewel. Absolutely fabulous colored!

    1. Thanks, Ria. I have come up with other tangles before, but I love the feel and look of this one more than any of the others. I hope you enjoy using it too!

  7. As usual, I like all the tiles you've shared. As you know, I also did Noom in the round and after much trial and error, realized that the line is key---it even makes it much easier in a straighter line orientation. Thanks for sharing Puffin. It looks like a very versatile tangle. Thank you also for the thoughtful comment you left on my Noom "navel gazing" blog post. :)

    1. I have a student, Gudrun, who is interested in Zentangle Inspired Art, and so I spend a lot of time finding ways to combine color with tangles. Fortunately, that's my favorite thing to do anyway :)

  10. I love that use of Aquafleur, what imagination. I like the new pattern too and you have made it so even - how did you do that? Lovely work, Jean, always a pleasure to see.

    1. Margaret, I used a grid in pencil to keep it even.

  11. Jean, I love your wonderful Noom circle. I'd call it a Full Noom. :-D And your Puffin fits in the middle really well, making it a really Full Noom. ;-) I don't know Pico at all, and I'm not on Facebook. But your tile is very interesting with all those variations. And I always like your color work. Your Aquafleur is beatuiful with the circle of Buttercup. Hmmm. I see a pattern here - Circles LOL. The green ribbon in the background really makes the circle stand out. Beautiful tiles all.

    1. LOL, Melena. I love that "A full Noom circle"! It's funny that you should notice circles. I just realized that the cards I am working on this week, my other obsession, are all based on circles! I wonder what that means? Maybe I feel like I'm going in circles?

  12. Noom and your Puffin go so well together! Thank you for sharing the step outs, this is definitely something I'm going to try. I also like your other tiles but, as always, your coloured work is unbelievable.

  13. Nice use of Noom. I have used as a frame and a string but not in the round like this. Puffin reminds me of Assunta. It is made differently but has a similar look. To answer your questions about the eggs, they are not a glossy plastic so the Microns work well on them. It is similar to working on paper. That is why can use colored pencils also. Believe it or not, I got them at ----- Walmart.

  17. I LOVE Puffin! It reminds me of Assunta (the way I do Assunta, anyhow, which is simplified), and Assunta is one of my favorites. I've only played with Puffin a little so far (after seeing it on ONE today), and I can already tell that it is destined for some major usage by me. It's GREAT!

    1. Thank you so much, Donna. It does have a similar look. I is a bit easier to do than Assunta, I think. Glad you are enjoying it and I'm looking forward to seeing it in your pieces!

    2. :-) Jean, as I work with it more, it is also reminding me of Fiore and Plower! However, your Puffin is a lot more cooperative with me when I am trying to go grid-free and free-form.

    3. I'm not a fan of grids, or strings for that matter, Donna. I find them both restrictive. It's nice to hear that it is working for you in that manner.
