Zentangle® 'Nzeppel and Block'd

Our special guest this week at I am the Diva, is Elisa Murphy, CZT. Elisa challenged us to use 'Nzeppel. 'Nzeppel is one of my favorites, so I needed to try something new. I chose a Renaissance tile and two very glittery pens (which don't show up well in the photo). I did double lines for the shaped to squeeze into and flared out the shape. Colored pencils were used for the shading and highlighting.
The focus tangle on Square One, Facebook, is Block'd by Jane Eileen Malone, CZT. I was fortunate enough to be able to take many classes from Jane. She definitely has a mathematical mind and I can find her tangles a bit challenging. But, that's always good to try to stretch now and then.
Keeping it short this week. Glad you could stop by. I appreciate all comments.

    1. Thanks, Gudrun. I usually pick my first color following the laws of propinquity, LOL! Then, I go from there to select the rest.

  2. Ah ha! Now we know your secret! Too bad the glitter doesn't show up well in the photo, mind you it looks great as is.

    1. Oh no ! Now I've given away my secret! There must be a trick to getting glitter to show up in a photo. Maybe someone will have some ideas? Thanks, Trudi!

  3. It feels like you were channeling summer in your color choices. I'm also very fond of "Nzeppel. Your use of double lines is a nice deviation from the usual.

    1. Yes, I suppose those are summer colors, Suzanne. I've been on an inner aura kick lately. Isn't it nice to be working with a tangle that doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone?

  4. Nice work Jean, I have never thought about using a double line for this tangle but it really looks good and I love the colours.
I didn' t know Block 'd, very original to put a little bit of 'N Zeppel in the quares. So, only by looking at your work, I've learned two things today, thank you very much Jane!

    1. I guess I hadn't thought of it before either, Ria. But, I am always looking for ways to spice up tangles, so it kind of just happened. Hope you have a better time of doing Block'd than I. It is fun to work with though.

  5. I skipped town for the big heat that hit this area last weekend and this last week and went up to the Mendocino Coast - Ahhhhhh, so nice and cool. LOL A very busy week though, helping with re roofing a garage. But it was fun. But that's why I missed last week's challenge. I'm glad I didn't miss this week. I love 'Nzeppel too. Not sure how it will turn out yet though. :-D I really like how you did yours. I never thought about doing it that way. I learn something new all the time. Nice colors too. Block'd looks like a fun one. I like how you did 2 different things to the blocks. The one does look like a flower and I can see what Ria means about using a bit of 'Nzeppel in those. The other one is very interesting. My mind goes back and forth seeing the one face come forward and the next second seeing it recede. A very good optical illusion there. But it did make me a little dizzy! LOL

I see you may be getting a bit of monsoon rain your way. I hope it isn't getting too flooded where you are. I hope you're having a good week.

    1. It's funny, Melena, that I forgot that I did put a bit of 'Nzeppel in the Block'd too. It does make for a sweet little flower all on it's own. Lucky you to get away for a few days. My hubby was away for a couple of weeks helping some friends in Texas, so I had days on end to work on my cards and painting. I don't increase my tangling time much though because of the trigger finger issue. Yes, we have had some nice rain, but nothing to cause flooding...yet :)

  7. I like how different it looks with just the corners filled in.

    1. The richer color needed to be added somewhere, so I decided on the corners. I think that if I had filled in all the auras, it might have looked too heavy. Thanks for stopping by, Charlotte!

    1. You must know by now, Susie, that I am always in search for another approach. That probably wouldn't be "zen" for a lot of people, but I think I would actually stop doing Zentangle if there was only one way to do anything :)

  11. Awesome! So beautiful and artistic , your tile!

  12. I think with the colors and the Renaissance tile, your 'Nzeppel has a floral look. I think it can look like a stone or flower depending on the colors and how you use it. Nice job.

    1. You're right, Donald. Color can really change 'Nzeppel. I think I have always done mine with a flower in my mind. I should try to do it thinking differently next time.
