Zentangle® Amphora, Por Fin, Bales, and Striping

This is a "use my tangle" week over at I am the Diva. The selected tangle is Amphora by Lily Moon. This is on a Renaissance tile with a sepia Micron, white colored pencil, and a rust colored pastel pencil.

The focus tangle for Square One on Facebook is Por Fin by Cathy Staeven, CZT. I added Squid.

Zentangle® Fragments, Reticula, Sindoo, and an Inchie

Well, the challenge from I am the Diva remains the same for this week except to use a fragment (filler) that is asymmetrical. I am happy to have another go at this. Last week, I tried to use an Ogee grid and lost myself along the way and had to say that I used an "irregular" gird. So, I decided to do it again, and did so with complete success. The filler is a fragment of Footlights by Carole Ohl, CZT.

The focus tangle at Square One, Facebook, is Sindoo by Sharon Robinson. I added some lines to it and it turned itself into Bales 😲

This week’s Every Inchie Monday prompt is “Question”. This made the song from Stone Sour, Through Glass, keep running through my head. Especially this verse:

How do you feel? That is the question
But I forget you don't expect an easy answer
When something like a soul becomes initialized
And folded up like paper dolls and little notes
You can't expect a bit of hope

Not to leave anyone depressed. It is only a song and my dancing paper dolls should put a smile on your face!

Zentangle® Skye, Bales, and an Inchie

Skye, by CZT Margaret Bremner, is the tangle chosen by I Am the Diva this week. I have been seeing several beautiful compositions recently using this tangle but hadn't gotten around to trying it. What a fun tangle. It does require a bit of concentration though, so be ready to devote some time to it the first few times around. I added some Fife and Betweed.

Facebook's Square One's focus tangle of the week is Bales. An old favorite! I added Verve, another favorite of mine.

Humm, now that I post them both I can see some similarities. Must be getting into a rut LOL!

Every Inchie Monday's prompt word is Robot. I'm showing my age when I admit to watching Lost in Space with Will Robinson Dr. Smith.

Zentangle® Hollibaugh, Pea-nuckle, and an Inchie

Weekly challenge number 245 over at I am the Diva was to use Hollibaugh. I love the versatility of Hollibaugh and I'll bet we see a lot of interesting tangles going on this week. I was going to do Hollibaugh inside of Hollibaugh but after I made the full circle, I just went with an under layer of Hollibaugh. I pulled out my Inktense, Aqua markers, and colored pencils to play a bit.

Square One on Facebook's focus tangle this week is Pea-nuckle. Molly taught this at my CZT training and I was still lost. However, once I am challenged, well, I now get it. I have been playing with it even more and finding it really fun. I added Bales and Cadent.

Crochet Inchie

And, the prompt word for Every Inchie Monday was Crochet. Since I do crochet, I made it easy on myself this week and just crochet a tiny one inch square.

A Zentangle® Challenge, an Inchie, and Copic Marker News

I am very pleased to let you know that I completed my Copic Training, am now a Copic Certified Designer, and will soon receive a button to place on the side of my blog to prove it :) It was so much fun, and very informative. I learned so a lot and can hardly wait to share some techniques with my ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) students. I won't make you look at everything that I do, but I thought I would share just one piece that I did. (Can't you just see this with tangled leaves?)

Laura, the Diva, challenged us to to try grid-based patterns on curvy or uneven grids. I started off, more predictably, and tosses that tile aside undone, and went back and got a bit more "wild" with my lines. Now, that was fun!

The Inchie for today, Every Inchie Monday, was "Dark".  I couldn't make up my mind, so I did a flashlight, lightbulb, and fireworks on black paper.

Zentangle® Dare, Challenge, Gourds, Magnet and an Inchie

I really liked the template this week, #88, from The Bright Owl. I used Sunray, Knightsbridge, and a variant of Crescent Moon:

The Diva's Challenge, #151, was to use the Moebius Syndrome Foundation's logo as your string. Please do look at her post to learn more about this syndrome that her absolutely adorable son has.

Marasu and Bales

My Inchie this week was to use "Brown". This was a lot of fun and I tried several things and finally settled on how you make the color brown. There are many ways to make brown, just browse the Internet, but the simplest is to just use two colors opposite from each other on the color wheel.


I have forgotten to post the work that we did at my monthly group. We were given magnet backed paper and could do whatever we wanted. This is now hanging on my refrigerator. I loved working on this paper because it is soft to draw on and also the pencil blends very nicely:

Dare # 72 and Quib, the New Zentangle

Well, Erin at the Bright Owl really handed us a difficult assignment this week. We tanglers tend to use very fine pens, meaning thin point, for our most delicate work. Occasionally, we might use a pen with a thicker point to do large fill-in areas. This week, we were to choose our "fatty" pen and do absolutely everything with that one pen. All I could find in my studio (that could be a page and a half on its own LOL) was a .6mm = pretty chunky. It does make you think of what kind of patterns would work on the template. I chose Bales, Betweed, and Mysteria:

I also belong to a group of great tanglers who meet once a month to push each other to grow in our art. We did some flower tangles and then worked on the new tangle, Quid:




Mine is the full color one.

Mine is the top right one. I have some excellent roll models in my group. They all do such beautiful work.

The ZIA Yahoo group has a new challenge called TOW (tangle of the week.) This week, it is BALES:

Having a bit of difficulty making this blog assessable to interested readers. Thanks to Susan Clark, I now have two working ways for this to happen. (As you can see by my photo, I've joined both ways to test it out LOL.) If anyone else has ideas on how to do this gracefully, or with ideas to jazz up the site, I'd love to hear.
