Zentangle® Basics, Henna Drum, and an Inchie

Such a refreshing challenge over at I am the Diva. Let's get back to basics. I know that I always start out teaching Zentangle the traditional way; however, it seems that many people want to expand into ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art). Yes, it is a lot of fun to use tangle patterns in other ways, but it sure was nice to do a traditional tangle and not have that added "stress" of choosing colors, paper sizes, and all of that. I happened to have Linda Farmer's new PDF of the Tangle Guide for 2016 open on my desktop, so I decided to pick 3 tangles from my open page that I had never done before. I selected Coral Seeds by Suzanne McNeillCZT, Croon by Margaret Bremner CZT, and Coil by Sue Jacobs CZT.

Square One's focus tangle on Facebook this week is Henna Drum by Jane McKugler, CZT. I LOVE Henna Drum. If you are a regular visitor, you know how I like to play with tangles. This is what I came up with.

And, finally, Every Inchie Monday's prompt was Sun. I am fascinated by the photos that my friend sends me from Canada of Sun Dogs. I have never seen one in person, but I sure would love to.

Zentangle® a Tree, Steps, and an Inchie

Over at I am the Diva, guest blogger Dilip Patel, CZT, shares the reasoning behind this week's challenge - monotangle a tree. I chose Henna Drum and used Prima watercolor pencils, an orange and cream fine line Sharpie, and a charcoal pencil in white, all on a Renaissance tile.

Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle from Helen Williams (I want to be Helen when I grow up!) called Steps. I added some Inapod.

The prompt word at Every Inchie Monday is "Tea". I could not get the song "Tea for Two" out of my head, so I went with that.

Diva Challenge #136, New Facebook Group for Tanglers

The Diva asked for color this week. Color she got:

I used Copics, my black Micron, and a purple Sharpie.

There is a new group on Facebook for people who like to use templates to add their tangles.  Ornate Animal Illustrations. I have done two so far. One in black and white and the second one has color added. Can you tell I am taking an online class from Strathmore with the background? They have free classes. Right now, I'm taking the one with Jane LaFazio and Joanne Sharpe and they both recommend a background border:

Tangles Galore August 9, 2013

I now have a Facebook page just for Tangle Street. I was afraid my family and friends really didn't want to think I have nothing in my life but Zentangle. Hummmm.....
Anyway, should you like to see it, I have a link on the right side of my posts.

A few fun things this week. Henna Drum (Jane MacKugler) was the tangle to use for  the Diva Challenge. I wanted to play with my new Zenstone, available from Zentangle:

 The first one is done completely with the Zenstone, except for my signature (didn't want you to miss that HAHA)








For the second one, I used a white gel pen and did the aura with the Zenstone.

For the contest for the Beez Ink Studio,
We were to use Hemp. Boy,what a battle I had with this one. If I would slow down a bit and remember that I am doing Zentangle, well, I just should.

A Dare, Bookmarkers, and Maisma

Geneviève Crabe contributed one of her Zendala templates today to Erin's dare from The Bright Owl. This template had LOTS of lines and I started spinning until I remembered that you do not have to include every single line into your tangle. Well, even with those barriers removed, I still managed to add more of my own even after I had removed a lot of the originals:

I also have a trade of vined and flowered bookmarkers that need to be mailed out:

I sprayed the 2" x 6" cardstock before I added the tangles with colored pens. I used Henna Drum, Zinger, Jax, Limpitz, CatKin, Rose and Barberpole. Then, I added some Copic markers for highlighting and shadows.

The TOW for this week was to use Maisma by Linda Dawson. Take a look at Linda Farmer's Tangled Patterns Site. I felt "boxed in" by it, so I went outside the box:

I so appreciate your looking at my blog and appreciate getting your comments. I will, hopefully, be getting my CZT certification soon and am trying very hard to get my work to be worthy of the title. I don't feel that my work is as neat as I would like so I try to make up for it in originality. I'm not sure that is a fair exchange though LOL! How I so admire all the real talent out there. I love how everyone shares so willingly in this tangled community!
