I am the Diva this week is Marguerite Samama, CZT. She proposed that we use the Fragment D-1 from the Zentangle Primer book. A lot of you will recognize this fragment as
Chaz, a tangle I presented at my CZT training in 2013. I'm looking forward to seeing our creative group play with this one.
I used Prismacolor pencils, Micron pen in brown, and edged in Distress Inks on a 3Z tile.
The focus tangle for
Square One this week is
Abukas by CharKat, CZT. If you follow the Diva and look at the contributions, you will know CharKat and her beautiful tangling.
To me, many tangles are extensions of others. I always have loved the stacking in
Hurry, which I believe grew into
Arukas and then
Abukas. I have added some of that patterning in between these two. Try adding that style around any shape and have some fun!
And, this week I was experimenting with connecting tangles. Coloring was done with Copic markers. I think I may continue the green from the upper Crescent Moon down into the Hollibaughed area. What do you think?

DeleteFragment D-1 gave me fits. Maybe if I had known about Chaz I would have approached it differently. Your D-1 tile reminds me of a lovely stained glass window. I don't do the Square One challenge (although maybe I should start), but I learned Abukas when Charlotte used it in my Aloha challenge last week and now I'm addicted.

DeleteThe last one with color is so beautiful. Inspired and unusual color combination of coral with grey-green is wonderful. I will be trying that out! Plus the graceful oval shape. Very pleasing to the eye!

DeleteI love your 3Z tile Jean! That was a wonderful way to use Fragment D1. I'm going to have to get some of those 3Z tiles. I loved seeing all the different things I could do with this (at least what I thought of at this time ;-) ) I ended up doing 3 tiles playing with it. The first one is mostly exploring, and the others I added color. What fun! And your Abukas is beautiful. I had to go check that one out at CharKat's site. Definitely worth trying out. And your last one is wonderful in how you connected the tangles. I think you should continue the aura and color down into Hollibaugh. :-D But then, that's only me working off your thoughts. Unfortunately I can't see the green in the gray. I think my computer screen isn't displaying the true colors.

In the beginning, I couldn't afford the regular tiles and so I cut them myself out of inexpensive watercolor paper, Melena. You could certainly cut your own triangular shaped tiles in the meantime. I enjoyed seeing all your fun variations of the fragment. I actually did carry some of the color down, as you suggested.

DeleteLovely' all in their different ways. I would continue the green too, perhaps letting it fade on the way down. Your colouring is so delicate . I didn't know the history of the fragment so I'm off on a little sidetrack to find out more. Tahnk you, Jean.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about fragments wither, Margaret. They seem to be miniature tangles in my mind. Kind of like the inside of a grid tangle in many cases. Maybe you'll find something that makes them "more" than that! If so, I'd love to know.
DeleteHi Jean, how ya been this summer? I really love your 3Z tile and how it turned out. I know there is color in there but it's hard to see them very much....I am color blind. (I love Zentangle for no color; and am a purist...no colors). I don't think you should extend the color down from Crescent Moon. I think in your case on that tile you need some separation so that it is recognized for what it is otherwise, it will seem distorted. Oh, and btw, the tangle Arukas came about when Martha was stuck on "permenant ignore"...I mean, on hold when trying to talk to certain people at Sakura and she said she started doodling and just came up with that tangle and spelled Sakura backwards to come up with the name for it. She commented on that in the class I attended this last June in Providence.
ReplyDeleteSummer is going by way too quickly, Duane. I am always busy and would love to just have one day that I actually get bored! I think we can all relate to "permanent ignore" and I'll be all tanglers doodle at those times :)

ReplyDeleteI do try to rotate the kind of tile I use for the Diva Challenge, Annette. In the beginning, I didn't much care for the triangular shape, but it is growing on me.

Your 3z tile highlighting your gorgeous tangle is fabulous. Wonderful line art! Your abukas tile is so organic... I feel like I could walk in some tropical paradise and come across these lovelies! Great transitioning between tangles on your last piece. Nicely done!
