Our guest poster over at I am the Diva this week is Marguerite Samama, CZT. She proposed that we use the Fragment D-1 from the Zentangle Primer book. A lot of you will recognize this fragment as Chaz, a tangle I presented at my CZT training in 2013. I'm looking forward to seeing our creative group play with this one.
I used Prismacolor pencils, Micron pen in brown, and edged in Distress Inks on a 3Z tile.
The focus tangle for Square One this week is Abukas by CharKat, CZT. If you follow the Diva and look at the contributions, you will know CharKat and her beautiful tangling.
To me, many tangles are extensions of others. I always have loved the stacking in Hurry, which I believe grew into Arukas and then Abukas. I have added some of that patterning in between these two. Try adding that style around any shape and have some fun!
And, this week I was experimenting with connecting tangles. Coloring was done with Copic markers. I think I may continue the green from the upper Crescent Moon down into the Hollibaughed area. What do you think?
Thank you so much for always encouraging me with your thoughtful comments, and thanks for stopping by!

Chaz, Zentangle®, Step-Outs
I have been thinking of my tangle, Chaz, lately and thought I would repost the steps for it. This is a copy/paste from the "Jean's Way" tab on the top bar.

I actually have taught this pattern for over 30 years. Not as Zentangle, but as a fun thing for my students to do when I was an elementary school art teacher. When I saw the hanging light while at lunch during my CZT training, I knew I had to present it to the whole group. Everyone, including Rick and Maria, liked Chaz!
Please let me know if this pattern already exists and I will remove it immediately

Zentangle® Spring, Shnek, Chaz, and an Inchie

Back to Zentangle though. This week, over at I am the Diva, we have a challenge to use a spring as a string. Love it!

Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Shnek. I really wanted to do this in the round but just couldn't seem to get it to connect smoothly and still be Shnek. I added my own tangle, Chaz in the center.

I'm happy to be home. I've missed all of you wonderful friends who kindly leave me comments :)

Zendala Dare #73, Diva Challenge #135, and Water Color Play
I got a new set of watercolors this week. The set is from Jack Richeson and has 22 pans of luscious colors. I picked up at AZ Art Supply since I now get a teacher discount. WooHoo! So, lots of playing with those. on these:

This was for the Diva Challenge, Well, a new tangle from Rick and Maria.

These two were just for fun. Remember fun?
Mooka, Jetties, Zander
The Zendala Dare from Erin at The Bright Owl probably wasn't supposed to turn into pumpkins, but I couldn't help it. That's what mine wanted to be. I LOVE Halloween :) A little Nipa and Printemps.
And finally, (well not really, there's lots more but you don't have to see everything HAHA), my Yahoo Group TOW (Tangle of the Week) was to do Riki Tiki. I used my Chaz and added some Tipple.

CZT and Chaz
I AM A CZT!!! The CZT training in Rhode Island was just wonderful. Rick and Maria and their whole family were so generous with their time and so welcoming to all of us. I enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel was so charming. I particularly loved the beautiful stairway that I ran up and down six floors between all breaks, not because there was no elevator, but because they fed us so well :}
Looks kind of like Rick's Paradox, yes?
I also was so happy to meet some of my tangling friends from the Yahoo ZIA group that I belong to as well as making many new friends.
I was so inspired by everything that I learned and saw that I came up with a new tangle that I have named Chaz. I saw this hanging in a local restaurant:

From this, I came up with a very simple tangle that can fill a single tile and be used as a sting itself (as Rick observed, like a Zendala), made small and used to fill in an area, or curve the lines to be more organic. Lots of choices with this one. Here are the step outs using Linda's template from tanglepatterns.com
Or, one with curved lines:

I hope you enjoy playing with this one.
Thanks for looking!
