The Zendala Dare #116 with Gneiss and Meer

If you have not gone over to see what Erin did for her outstanding contribution to the Zendala Dare this week, you must go see! I did not scroll down to see hers or I might not have even tried to do one this time LOL! I do love opening up one of my books and selecting a tangle at random and making it work, or at least try to make it work, in the given template. So it was with a variant of Gneiss (inverted). I also added a kind of Meer and the rest was done with shading.

For those of you who "see" things in the tangles, I can't help seeing a plate of deviled eggs with toast points around the edges!

The Zendala Dare # 115

Erin gave us a great template to work with over at The Bright Owl. We were to use the letters from the word "thank". I used three of the letters; Trumpits by Theresa Glover, Heartvine by Lori Howe, and Knightsbridge.

Zendala Dare #112

Erin at The Bright Owl has given us a beautiful template to do our Zendala's this week. I chose Jonqal and Munchin. I had to force myself to stop. I often add too much and lose something in the process. I think minimal shading suited this design quite well.

Zendala of Frankenstein

The challenge over at The Bright Owl this week is to  turn Erin's template into a Halloween masterpiece. I'm not too sure about the "masterpiece" part, but my rendition of Frankenstein would certainly fall into the Halloween part. At first, I wondered how this would work into my way of thinking about Zentangle and Zendala's. However, once I got started, I found the rhythm the same as I went about the circle repeating one little piece of the face at a time. I did manage to squeeze in a bit of Knightsbridge along the outer edge! A fun challenge!

Zendala Dare #109

Erin gave us a delightful template to use this week for The Zendala Dare. It was one of those templates that didn't speak to her for a long time. I'm glad it finally did because that's what a challenge is all about, right?

I really enjoyed the odd edge and turned it into a frame of Emingle. I love the star in the center. Do print this one up and play. It's a fun one to do.

Arukas as a Zendala

When I saw the Zendala Dare for today, my first impulse was to do Paradox. But, as I scrolled down, I say that Erin had done Paradox already. Hummm. Then, Arukas popped into my head and I went with it. I did a single for the middle and a double on the outer.

Do go over to The Bright Owl to get a template to create your own Zendala. I used Aquafleur around the outside, a form of Hurry for the inside, and just simple line work and dots for the rest.

Zendala Dare #106

Surprise everyone. Here I am mid-week with a Zendala. Erin, over at The Bright Owl was a guest for The Diva Challenge last week and that reminded me of how much I enjoy doing Zendalas. When she stopped posting, I had switched over to doing the Every Inchie Monday instead. It's nice to find that she is back and posting templates for us.

I find it overwhelming, myself, when I go to a blog and it is soooo full of things to look at. Therefore, I will not add this to my regular Monday posting where I show the Diva Challenge, Square One from Facebook, and the Inchie. Do check out my Monday posting if you are not familiar with those.

The template was a really nice one and I decided to try to make it look nothing like the original template. So, I'm not sure I would really think of these as tangles, but more like line work.

Zentangle® a Zendala, Schway/Aroz, and an Inchie

Erin Olsen, CZT, is the guest over at The Diva Challenge. Laura is the genius behind The Bright Owl, home of the weekly Zendala Dare. She left us with a nice little template to just have fun with. I started with Margaret Bremner, CZT's, tangle Croon. From there, I just played with lines and shading.

Square One on Facebook had a focus tangle of Schway (or Aroz) to which I added Paradox and Fescu.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word was Wall. First thought, which I don't usually go with, was my favorite CD int the late 80's Pink Floyd The Wall!

Zentangle® Organically, Zendala, and an Inchie

The Diva's guest, Cari Sultanik, CZT, requested organic tangles today. I chose Pendrills, Antidots (Anita Rob-Lavery), and Cat-Kin (Mimi Lempart). Check out everyone's tangles.

Facebook's focus tangle this week, is Eye-Wa to which I added Hurry and Msst.

Just for fun, my friend Amy, a new CZT (do go visit her blog,) gave me one of her prestrung Zendalas to play with.

And, Every Inchie Monday had a prompt word of "yellow." How much I dislike yellow jackets, or wasps as they are called locally. Here is a yellow jacket in a yellow jacket, so not quite so scary LOL!

Zentangle® Mooka in a Box, a Zendala and an Inchie

Well, it's Monday morning, and the first thing I do is head over to I am the Diva to see what this week's challenge is (#195). Visiting CZT, Sandy Hunter, came up with a doosy. At least I think so. She asked us to take something that is usually in a grid and take it out of the grid, or take something without a grid and put it in one. I'm not really fond of grid based tangles most of the time. I find them better for borders and backgrounds. I often take grid based tangles and yank them out of their confinement any way. My favorite tangle is Paradox, but I think that taking it out of the box still looks like it is in a box, so that wouldn't do. My second favorite is Mooka. Put Mooka in a box? Horrors!!!! But that's what I did. I went for a tan tile this time and I also added some perfs and rounding for a bit of interest. Thanks for the push, Sandy!

For Square one, the tangle this week was Assunta, to which I added some Arukas. (Don't know this one? Find a CZT and take a class to learn how to do it!)

I have an In the Round class coming up, so I was playing with Zendalas this week too.

XYP, Betweed, Paradox

To get started, I used the little plastic toy, Ravensburger Mini Mandala Make, that I ordered through Sue Jacob's site. Read about it here. If you do decide to order one, do it through her site so she gets a few pennies on the sale. I'm fairly proficient with a compass, so I probably won't use it much, but it was something different and fun. I got one for my granddaughter for Christmas also.

And, finally, this week over at Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was X-Axis. So, I made the blue and red cross and guess what jumped in? Paradox, of course!

Zentangle® Zendala, Beads of Courage, and an Inchie

Busy, busy. You think my life? No, I think my tangles! The Zendala Dare from Erin at The Bright Owl was back this week. We are all so HAPPY! Which was our dare, to use the letters of HAPPY if we chose to. Well, I was working on that and I wound up with a very busy piece. I was able to use Hurry, Arc Flower, Paushalov, Pepper variation, and Yincut. I decided to go with a thicker black pen and define some of the  areas, and I think that helped.

You must go over to I Am the Diva and read about Beads of Courage. My husband and I were both moved to tears. My tile is dedicated to Artoo because that little guy is so precious:

And, this week's Inchie was to use the word "Legal". My first thought was a legal pad. I love them. I guess I love all paper, pencils, erasers, pens, crayons, paints, markers... well, you get the idea :)

Circles, an Inchie, and Zentangle® Meets Art Journaling

This week, the Dive Challenged us to use circles. Since, in the USA, we are celebrating Memorial Day, I thought I would ignore the Zentangle police banging on my door for using a compass and pull out some red and blue pens LOL! I couldn't resist putting some non-Zentangle stars in there and some Distress Ink in Barn Door too :)




For this week's Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "Killer". My first thought was, well, you ALL know the headache I am talking about:

I know some of you follow my art journal blog as well, but since our prompt this week was to use a Mandala, I thought I might share that picture here for those who do not.

Zentangle® with Scratch Paper, an Ichie, a Challenge, and some ITSO Cloisonne

Don't run screaming away from this post; there's a lot to see :) It was a busy week, good kind of busy, with lots of tangling. The ones I really had fun doing were some Zendalas done ITSO (in the style of) Cloisonne. (Which I can't remember how to say well, but , oh what fun doing.) I really love these dares and challenges and swaps because they make me do things I would have never thought of doing. This swap is for my Yahoo group, Zentangle Inspired Art. Look up Cloisonne on Google and then make some fun for yourself. I made my own circles and, using a compass, divided the sections. Gel pens were added for the color.

For the Weekly Challenge from Laura, we were to use our initials (JC) as a string. I decided to only use tangles that start with my initials as well:







Inchie: for Every Inchie Monday, I wanted to do some kind of medal of honor, but I was so overwhelmed by the intricacies of them that I went back to my school days before "happy faces" were invented and we got a gold star for good work. I, of course, seldom got the gold LOL!
And finally (you still with me?) the group that I meet with monthly did some scratch art together. It is so much fun to work in a group.

I  promise to be lazier this week and not make you look at so much. Well, maybe........

Zentangle® BIG Style, Inchie, Challenge and a Dare

I thought I would start this week with the Diva's Challenge this week, to use one word for the year. I know my word ZENTANGLE! Surprise HAHA!! I decided to do this on a big posterboard so I could take it with me on demos and such.













While I was out, buying posterboard, I thought it might be fun to work on black too. So, I added some of the things that happen once you know Zentangle, like Zendalas, and ZIAs.










Next came the Zendala Dare with a template that just screamed Bunzo to me. I LOVE Bunzo.

Then, came this week's Inchie with Amulet as the word for this week. Add a little of my Copics, some glitter glue, some bling, a variation of Verve and a little stone in the center. Here's to good luck to everyone!
