Zentangle® Lisbon Fragment, and Flovine

This week at I am the Diva, our guest is Henrike Bratz, CZT, sharing her step-outs for a tangle she calls Lisbon Fragment. Do go look and see how it really was supposed to be done. I tried to get it to do a twist, but I would really have to go back and rethink this to see if I could get it to work better. Sometimes I think I know what I should do, but sometimes I really don't. However, posting exactly what I did using a regular Zentangle tile and adding some Marvy Le Plume pens.
Square One, on Facebook, has a really nice tangle from Lin Chiu, CZT, called Flovine. I put it into Quib and added an upper shadow of Bales.

And, since I really liked this tangle, I put it into a circle, added Squid, and colored with Copic Markers.

Thanks for stopping by. I truly love reading all of your comments!

  2. Well, you certainly got your Lisbon Fragment to do something other than lay flat like mine does. Henrike did a beautiful job deconstructing the Portuguese tile designs. Me---not so much, but I'm willing to keep working on it.

    1. I could do it perfectly on my scratch paper, Suzanne. That's what I usually do. But, by then I am already bored and need to "mess" with the tangle. I think the only tangle that I haven't really pushed is Mooka. Humm, maybe it's time?

  3. Your 'sometimes I think I know what to do' made me smile. I had the same :-) Still the tile is quite pretty!

    1. Add enough color and just about anything can still look pretty, Annemarie, LOL!

  4. What a lovely collection of work this week! I'm with Suzanne about your venturing outside the simple box grid with this one. This pattern is not as easy as it looks. I love the coloring in your last piece;-)

    1. It was fairly easy when done in a straight grid, Michele, but I really thought it would look cool going diagonally from the original square. And, I think it would if it was given a bit more thought. My pen is often faster than my brain, LOL!

  5. These are all really pretty but the final one is a knock out. Love the style, the colour, everything.

    1. Thanks, Margaret, I am not even sure which colors I used, but I always love the BG (blue/green) Copic markers.

  6. Jean...Jean, You're not supposed to try to twist Lisbon Fragment. Leave that to the Dance. Looks like you broke up the individual panes of Lisbon and tried to put them together on a slant. What the heck, Jean, just call it "modern art". Kinda looks like it. Just kidding with you. I like your work.

    1. LOL, Duane. If I can't twist, bend, or twirl a tangle, it doesn't belong in my basket :)

  7. I love how your Lisbon fragment turned out! It's a tricky one but even though you feel you need to go back and work with it, it still has such a beautiful Escher-like look!

    1. Thanks, Katie. The tangle itself is quite easy, it's the messing with it that needs to be pursued :) I went off when I tried to angle it. I am happy with the interior of the first part though.

  8. I don't "play" with tangles often, so I just went straight but I like your twist; it's got good dimension.

I love your Square One: Purely Zentangle tile. I haven't attempted Flovine yet but love how you incorporated it into Quib. The faded Bales adds nice interest. :)

    1. I so appreciate your comments, Michele, especially about the Flovine. That is actually my favorite tile this week. One that follows "rules" pretty much :)

  9. I think you did a great job on the Lisbon Fragment Jean. It does remind me of the construction phase of the hotel they're building near me. LOL Actually, that has been very interesting to watch for the last 3 years. :-D I like Flovine. Haven't used it much though. I like how you used it as part of Quib, another tangle I really like. Bales is so nice as a shade in the back ground. I like your last one the best though. Very colorful and a nice use of Flovine in the circle with Squid.

I don't think I'm going to get the Diva Challenge done again this week. Just too much going on. I'm with my friend at his place on the coast and we're trying to get the roof done on the garage. Whew!!! In the evening I'm too tired to even sit down with pen and tile. But it's a good tired. ;-) And it's beautiful weather up here. Have a great week.

    1. I'm going to miss your post, Melena, but I'm glad you are doing something so kind for a friend. I hope he appreciates that you gave up Zentangle this week for his roof, LOL! Don't work too hard though, and I'll just have to look forward to seeing what you do next week.

    2. Well, got a break in the work. The roofing people came in today to finish it all off........thank goodness. LOL So, I did the Diva Challenge after all. I had this idea come to me and I had to do it. :-D So, now you don't have to wait until next week.

  10. I like tangles like Lisbon Fragment but like you, I have to work at them. I did something with this one that I have not done for a long time. I practiced it in my journal before I tried it on a tile. Even then when I thought I had it, it was difficult. The way you shaded gives Lisbon a nice dimension. I like the color in your tiles. I wish that I had more time to participate in more of the challenges as it did give an opportunity to at least try some new tangles.

    1. I did it in my notebook first too, Donald. That's not something I would usually do either, but it looked like it might be a bit tricky. It actually turned out perfectly there. I should have just done it straight, but that's just not in my nature as you know :) I don't have as much time for Zentangle as I thought I would, being retired and all, but there are just still so many things to do.

  11. I love the colour in your diva tile and especially how you enlarged one fragment and used it as a grid for n'zeppel. And your orange blue squid looks gorgeous!
