I am the Diva is to do a tile that reflects our home. I am very happy to be located in the southwest of the USA. This is something we see often, and yes, our sunsets and sunrises can be much more vivid than this.
I used watercolor pencils on the cactus that I drew. I added partial Ahh for the prickly parts (prickly pear cactus) and some "rocks" of Festune.

Of course, I love to stretch tangles, so I added a Bunzo type center and an aurua. I added Fescu and a Bunzo style Jetties to balance out the look.
Sometime I push too hard and wind up with an "oops"! Of course, there are no mistakes in Zentangle, so I took this Campreap that went wrong and just kept going. Never toss a tile, you can always learn something.

ReplyDeleteWe had a really hot spell for a bit, but it is now down to normal. Of course, normal is a bit warm for most people. Looking for 116 degrees by Friday again. I guess I'm just lucky that I like the heat, LOL. Thanks for stopping by, Trudi!

ReplyDeleteYes, we are lucky that it is usually dry here, Deanne. However, July brings the monsoons, so the humidity does go up.
DeleteI like your prickly pear and sunset. Also agree with you about continuing with a tile after you make an Oops although it is soooo tempting to throw those ones in the round file (garbage bin).
ReplyDeleteI do get quite annoyed with myself when I totally mess up a tile, Miss L. As a last resort, I admit to covering a tile with gesso and then using it for mixed media :)

ReplyDeleteHaving lived in Arizona all of my adult life, Susie, I have had a lot of cactus plants. I now know they are quite invasive and will take over your whole yard if you blink your eyes! I don't plant cactus anymore :)

ReplyDeleteI find it strange, but we even have prickly pear cacti here in New Jersey where I spend the summer. Of course, they are no where nearly as impressive as the ones you have in Arizona. I think it is a fine motif to represent and celebrate your home.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Suzanne, that I grew up there, but I don't remember seeing prickly pear cacti down the shore. Maybe they were too small for me to notice. All I ever cared about was the ocean and all the fabulous junk food you could get on the boardwalk!
DeleteJean, as usual, your artwork is impeccable and I love it. I really like your "oops" tangle and think I may use that look. I am getting geared up for teaching the Zentangle method, getting supplies together and an easel with big newsprint paper on it to show students the tangles. There is so many things to get together first before you can rush out and do a class. I am still waiting for my business cards to get here. Slowly its coming together.

DeleteNice way to depict the Southwest. I chose to go back to my roots. I have not tried the Square One focus tangle. It looks interesting and yours turned out well. Looking forward to seeing a lot of great art. Congrats on being first to post. Not an easy thing to do.

(I'm a bit hooked) I feel already a bit better but can't follow all the challenges and can't give a comment on everyone's work, but this was a lovely challenge of Laura and I like your cactus and Camreap is beautiful drawn. DeleteI've been out of town and got back Thursday. Too much to do when I got home, so I finally got mine done and posted today. Whew! I love your Prickly Pear Cactus. A great representation of where you have your home. What fun. And your Square One Camreap tile is great. I got back home just in time for more hot weather - 104 here yesterday (ugh). ReplyDeleteAh, you are having a cold spell. We are supposed to hit 118 again, LOL! It's always nice to get away, but catching up can be a nightmare. I will go see what you have created after I finish my morning chores. This has been a fun challenge!
