Zentangle® a Double String and an Inchie

String
Aimee Belair is the guest today over at the Diva's blog and challenged us to do a double string. Well, strings are not my favorites. I teach them, but seldom use them as I find them very confining and just not "relaxing" for me. The idea of using two made me shudder in anticipation of tangle overload.

Aquafleur, Diva Dance Foxtrot, Mooka, Glace, Meer, Fescu, XYP
For Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was Maroon. Of course, the color is quite depressing, to me anyway, so I went in the direction of maroon as in marooned on an island. I would be fine as long as I have some pencils and a sketchpad. And, is that Jack Sparrow I see walking toward me?

  1. Fabulous drawing on your inchie and for sure, I can see Jack!

  2. I know what you mean by tangle overload - I've put off starting mine as I can see that happening to me too.
Even so, I think you've avoided it very nicely!

  4. Great minds think alike on the inchie, and I love your tangle.

  5. I like the shading on your tile, it adds depth to the tangles

    1. Thank you, Jules. I enjoy the shading part of tangling, especially since there is no fixed light source. (Meaning, no rules!)

  6. Love what you did with the superimposed string! Long live a teeny Caribbean island :)

  8. Brilliant inchie. I would like to take my sewing needle and some fabrics to the island and everything would be ok.

  9. Love your work, your inchie is great, when I had told my daughter about the theme, her first thought was marooned on a desert island. LOL great job

    1. I try, Chrissie, but I can't do as much as most of the other people who do these wonderfully tiny pieces of art. But, I'll keep trying.

  11. Hi Jean, Your tile is great. I must say that when I look at your string, it looks overloaded indeed, but after that you tangled it there is a lot of peace in it and doesn't look overloaded at all. Neither is your beach inchie (ha ha) not overcrowded by people :)

    1. Thanks. Well, I really worked hard on not getting too cluttered with so much string all over that poor tile. That's where Fescu and Mooka saved the day!

  12. As long as you are marooned with paper and pens, everything will be alright!

Love the tangle too.. I find your tangles very educational in how you leave white space -- it seems more artistic..

    1. Thank you, Kia. It does take time to experiment with different ways to tangle. Eventually you find something that works for you. Well, except if you're me and always try to do something different HAHA!

  14. Nice patterns, and a nice double string ;-))))))

  15. Hey, Jean. I only recently figured out what Inchies were, and how tough they would be to make. Great job on your Island scenario. I love your Tangle. Besides all the other challenges in designing a challenge Tile, choosing the Patterns is, for me, the toughest part. You seem to excel at the aspect, as well as all the other facets of Tile Design. Great tile.

    1. Hi David! Inchies are just toooo much fun. You should join us. I appreciate your comments. I keep my patterns close at hand and skim through looking for just the right one to fit with others. Evernote is just about my favorite place to keep my tangles available. I have one notebook for "official" tangles and one for tangles made up by others. I do tend to use the official ones more, maybe because I am a CZT?

  17. I think you have done a masterful string on string tangle, Jean - very restrained and elegant. And yes, any opportunity to imagine Jack Sparrow walking towards me works perfectly!! Axxx

  18. Oh, I was so happy to read your view on strings.. Here I was feeling so 'marooned'!! haha) Anyway, I really didn't care much for this challenge, but I do have to say, your tile looks fab!!! I'm no too crazy about mine! I love your Inchie!! (I never would've thought of the island scenario. Great thinking'. But ya' better watch if it is Jack Sparrow, ya' just can't trust that guy!!! He's liable to steal your pencils and use them for eyeliner or something! Have a great weekend! :0) Share Humanity

  20. I agree with what Didisch.said: when I saw your string it looks quite complex, but then the tile you made it into is just lovely. Not a bit of overload, and yet a very interesting and unusual shape. I love it.

    1. Thank you, Jennifer. I guess that's what the challenge is all about. Getting tangles to work for you. I enjoy the push each week to try something different, and this certainly was a push :)

  23. Beautiful tile and not too busy at all. I like the idea of working without a string, will have to give that a try.

    1. Thank you, Minette. It really, for me, is just so freeing. I just let one tangle grow from another or add a grid type as a background.

  24. I think that in spite of not liking strings, and shuddering just thinking about double strings, you did a wonderful job on this challenge. The contrast is great, and I like the balance of tangles and white space.

  27. I don't like strings either - they confuse me. And I too shuddered at hearing 2 strings :) Yours is cool - especially how you used it to use more of a border tangle in places. Nice!
