Zentangle® Some Mac 'n Cheese

This week over at I am the Diva, the challenge is to use our favorite tangles. Our "go to" tangles. Our "mac "n cheese"! Fun and no pressure at all. I selected Mooka, Bunzo, Verve, and Tipple. All my favorites and easy for me to do.

The focus tangle from Square One on Facebook is Nuwave by Beth Snoderly. Again, I played with a variation of Footlights.










And, this week I really wanted to try  making some bubbles with Copic markers. I used Sandy Steen Bartholomew’s Buttercup, Carole Ohl's Footlights, and then added my bubbles for fun.

Zentangle® Mooka, Fugu, and an Inchie

Laura, from I am the Diva, asked us to add "a-bit-o-black". Well, that sounded like a lot of fun. I thought I would use some Mooka and see where it would lead me. I added some Jetties to continue the theme.

The focus tangle over at Square One on Facebook is to use Fugu by CZT Sonya Yencer. I added a bit of Knightsbridge, Printemps, and Fescu.

And, the prompt word over at Every Inchie Monday is 3-D. Here is my rendition of the kind of 3-D glasses that were available when I was a child.

Zentangle® Hollibaugh/Hollibaugh, Pepper, Mooka, and an Inchie

The challenge this week from I am the Diva, is to use a tangle inside of a tangle. I suggest this to my students all the time and I always point out how much fun it would be to tangle Hollibaugh inside of Hollibaugh. So, I finally decided to do it myself. I got four layers going. If you've never held a hand mirror up to a mirror, do try it. It's the same thing. I added some partial Meer, some orbs and specific shading to try to show some of the layering.

Square One, Facebook, has a focus word of Pepper. I combined a Pepper with Mooka.

And, finally for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word was village. I really looked to find something different and finally gave up. This is not my favorite inchie because I couldn't find any way to be creative. So, I give you a simply drawn village.

Zentangle®, Simplicity, and an Inchie

The Diva's weekly challenge has a guest blogger this week, Katie Crommett. Katie is a CZT who challenges us to remember simplicity when we tangle. Good advice, Katie!
I chose Tidal that morphed into Crescent Moon all cuddled with Mooka. Lots of breathing room left as well.

Square One, Facebook, had us playing with Finery. I thought I would try making it more angular rather than flowing like a feather. I added a kind of altered Diva Dance and Meer.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was nose. There were so many places I could have gone with this, but for some reason all I could see in my mind was a pig's snout LOL! Some times you've just gotta do what you gotta do!

Zentangle® Spirals, Mooka and Lasso the Moon

Let's play with a spiral, suggests the Diva for Challenge #210. Well, why not? Oh, at this moment I wish I were Helen Williams. Sigh. But, since I'm not, here's my version of a spiral with kind of a Btl Joos, kind of Meer and Msst.








For Facebook's Square One = Mooka to which I added Fescu, Tipple and Fengle.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word was Lasso. Do you remember It's a Wonderful Life where George offers to lasso the moon for Mary?

Zentangle®, Cubine, Pokeroot, Bunzo and an Inchie

This week, the Diva challenged us to do a duotangle of Cubine and Pokeroot. These are basic beginner tangles but I'll bet we see some masterful adaptations from our talented group.

Square one, on Facebook, gave us Bunzo to work with. I really enjoyed this one. I added some Mooka.

And, over at Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "Egyptian". The eye of Ra was passed to each Pharaoh and was thought to be all seeing and protected the King by repelling all evil!

Zentangle® a KISS Mooka, Some Indy-Rella, And An Inchie

The Diva is back and her Challenge, #198, is to KISS, or keep it simple silly. Just about the easiest tangle, for me, is Mooka. I did it on a tan tile with an 05 brown and added red chalk and white charcoal. Simple!

For Square One on Facebook, the tangle was Indy-Rella. I made one huge one and then put little ones as a background grid.

 And, finally, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word was "yellow." Sometimes I amuse myself in seeing what direction I go. Somehow yellow fever, not a very nice thing, came to my mind. I hate (oh, that's a strong word, maybe dislike immensely?) mosquitoes.

Zentangle® Mooka in a Box, a Zendala and an Inchie

Well, it's Monday morning, and the first thing I do is head over to I am the Diva to see what this week's challenge is (#195). Visiting CZT, Sandy Hunter, came up with a doosy. At least I think so. She asked us to take something that is usually in a grid and take it out of the grid, or take something without a grid and put it in one. I'm not really fond of grid based tangles most of the time. I find them better for borders and backgrounds. I often take grid based tangles and yank them out of their confinement any way. My favorite tangle is Paradox, but I think that taking it out of the box still looks like it is in a box, so that wouldn't do. My second favorite is Mooka. Put Mooka in a box? Horrors!!!! But that's what I did. I went for a tan tile this time and I also added some perfs and rounding for a bit of interest. Thanks for the push, Sandy!

For Square one, the tangle this week was Assunta, to which I added some Arukas. (Don't know this one? Find a CZT and take a class to learn how to do it!)

I have an In the Round class coming up, so I was playing with Zendalas this week too.

XYP, Betweed, Paradox

To get started, I used the little plastic toy, Ravensburger Mini Mandala Make, that I ordered through Sue Jacob's site. Read about it here. If you do decide to order one, do it through her site so she gets a few pennies on the sale. I'm fairly proficient with a compass, so I probably won't use it much, but it was something different and fun. I got one for my granddaughter for Christmas also.

And, finally, this week over at Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was X-Axis. So, I made the blue and red cross and guess what jumped in? Paradox, of course!

Zentangle® Challenges and an Inchie

This week, over at I am the Diva, the guest CZT for the week is Holly Atwater from ha! designs. She has selected a trio of tangles for us to include in our tile this week. They are, Trio (Hanny Waldburger), Huggins, and Xyp. I will be interested to see how others combined this grouping of tangles. I decided to "play" with Trio and then do the other two straight up.

For Square One on Facebook, the tangle of the week is Swarm. I added Scarabou, and Mooka to this one.

And, for this week's Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "Wheat." As you know by now, if you are a regular follower, I have a hard time going directly for a representation of the word and have the need to look for something interesting.

Now, I am not a beer drinker so I couldn't tell you much about this. I even looked it up but the recipes for beer used words like "hops" and "mash" and such that mean nothing to me. All I can tell you is that more wheat is included in a wheat beer and I thought this looked like a mug of something sudsy!

Zentangle® Strings, Tipple vs Perfs, and an Inchie

For this week's challenge, # 187, the Diva asked us to do our string with our eyes closed. This is the string I made.





Which turned into this.

Half a Verve, direction changing Facade, Mooka, Onamato, Squid, and some embellishments. 













Square One: Purely Zentangle®,  had us working with Betweed. I had someone ask the difference between Tipple and perfs, so I added some perfs (pearl like dots around a tangle as used in old manuscripts) and a couple of auras.

 And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "Throne". Well, you know I wanted to do the porcelain throne, but thought too many would go that direction, so I had to dig deeper. I found some interesting things about angelic hierarchies and throne angels. I did the first one using oil pastels with the scratch method of layering black over lighter colors then scraping off. But, I wasn't sure it cold be seen as an angel, so I did another with a Copic sprayed background and gel pens.

Zentangle® a Double String and an Inchie

Aimee Belair is the guest today over at the Diva's blog and challenged us to do a double string. Well, strings are not my favorites. I teach them, but seldom use them as I find them very confining and just not "relaxing" for me. The idea of using two made me shudder in anticipation of tangle overload.

Aquafleur, Diva Dance Foxtrot, Mooka, Glace, Meer, Fescu, XYP

For Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was Maroon. Of course, the color is quite depressing, to me anyway, so I went in the direction of maroon as in marooned on an island. I would be fine as long as I have some pencils and a sketchpad. And, is that Jack Sparrow I see walking toward me?

Zentangle® Mooka and Auraknot and an Inchie

The Diva challenged us to use Mooka and Auraknot as a duotangle this week. I happen to love both of them so I decided to break out one of my tan Renaissance tiles to do this one. I'm glad I did because I really like this one and I hope you do too! Head over there to see videos of these two great tangles from Rick and Maria!

This week's Inchie from Every Inchie Monday had me throwing fits. I just couldn't do "lavender." I love the color, and it's actually my favorite, but I didn't want to do color. I didn't want to do the flower. I didn't want to do the aura. Then I had a very odd memory. When I was really young (maybe last week?) I remember some really OLD ladies (probably 50 or so HAHA) who always had these lavender candies in their purse. They came in a tiny box. The candies were sort of triangular shaped and smelled and tasted like soap. Is there anyone else out there that remembers these? I looked up old fashioned candy online but couldn't find them. So, I have made them for YOU! Can't you almost taste how awful they are?

Zentangle® a Diva Challenge, an Inchie, and ANOTHER New Blog!

The Diva has come up with another wonderful tangle, yet to be named, that we got to play with for this week's UMT (Use my Tangle) #166. It is simple, yet it has so many possibilities. Hop over to her blog and give it a try. I think you will like it.








The Inchie gave me a bit more difficulty as I really enjoy searching for something no one else will think of. Often I am surprised at how many think like I :) Anyway, the prompt for this week was Indigo. Well, it certainly is a lovely color, but I was looking further and found that there is such a thing as "Indigo Children". I wound up down a rabbit hole (which happens to me way too often) and by the time I looked up, hours had passed and I had learned about something new. This isn't for everyone, I suppose, but I found it interesting.

And a couple of tangles I did while I was giving a demo at Hobby Lobby last Friday:

Camelia in grid.

Tan tile that I cut of my own paper done with Sepia pen, white gel pen, white charcoal, and the reddish is a Pitt Pastel pencil. As you may know, last week I played with Camelia without the grid but I decided I should play nice and give the grid a chance. I actually like it this way and I am surprised. What a versatile tangle it is.

Back to our roots on this one. I actually used a string (Hollibaugh) and I don't usually use a string as I find them a bit choppy looking sometimes. (At least when I do them LOL!)

A Dare, A Challenge, and the Tangle of the Week

I am running a bit behind this week. We were gone for a few days for a friend's wedding. I'm up and running again and have completed the Challenge, Dare, and TOW.

The Diva challenged us to do a tangle called Cruze, by Caren Mlot. This is a fun tangle which I did on a water colored ATC. Trying to kill two birds with one stone, this ATC will go with my deck of cards CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) swap.

The Zendala Dare #79 for the week was to do something to thank the founders of Zentangle, Rick and Maria, by doing something that makes us think of them. I am ever so grateful for having Zentangle in my life and I count my CZT training as a highlight of my life as well. I always think of Maria when I attempt Mooka (you must watch this video if you have never seen Maria do Mooka). I say attempt, because once you watch this, you will know why LOL! Then, Paradox is just Rick to me. Probably because his name is on it :)

And, finally, the TOW from my Yahoo group was to use Zinbolic by Patty Meijer. I also used some Antidots and a variant of Crescent Moon:

Zendala Dare #76 and Inapod

This week's Dare from Erin and The Bright Owl reminded me of a spoked wagon wheel. Yet, my finished work didn't turn out that way. I wanted to see if I could use Eke. It isn't a favorite, therefore I ignore it. Bad. So, I pushed it into this zendala. I suppose it makes a nice break between the inner lighter pattern and the darker outer pattern. I also used variations of Meer, Dyon, and Chartz.

My Yahoo group Tangle of the Week was to use Inapod. I never use this one either, yet is is a favorite and always makes me smile when I see others use it. Just a bit of modified Mooka added as well. I did this one with black pen on some light blue textured cardstock. Then, I added white pastel for the highlights and Copics for the shadows. I really like this one. (I'll bet that surprises you, my faithful readers, as you already know I am very critical of my own work.) I think it is because it is simple and, usually, I tend to overwork my pieces.

Dare # 75, Alice Gets Lost in Wonderland

In week's Zentangle class, my students worked on tangling gardens. Do check out their work on the "Workshop" tab above. I did one of my own by "borrowing" an Internet coloring book picture of Alice and the Cheshire cat and pasting them where I needed them to be in the completed piece on a word document. Then I printed the page out on watercolor paper. Next, I added my tangled garden using pen, ink and Copics.

I thought the pink Mooka looked kind of like the flamingo's used for the croquet game, and Diva Dance worked perfectly for the tree's texture.

The Zendala Dare this week, from Erin and The Bright Owl, was a pretty one. I enjoyed working on it. She also had given us a new tangle to play with called Solow. Do check that out as well.
