Zentangle® Some Leaves and a Salmon Inchie

Oh what fun this week's Challenge from the Diva was. Leaves! Well, I live in the Phoenix area. Our leaves stay on the trees until February and then grow back in February. But, I grew up in the East, so I do remember the glorious colors of fall.
I used my Copics with an airbrush for the background over a silk leaf. Turned it into Aquafleur with a Diva Dance stem. Added some simple Tipple and Meer. Highlights were added to the orange lines with a yellow marker and the shadows are a cream colored marker (Distress). Finally, a bit of Wink of Stella over the black and stem. Yes, a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art)!

Square One: Purely Zentangle on Facebook added DEX to the mix this week. The first one didn't really do it for me so I did a second where I added Pearlz, and Reef by Judy Lehman

And, finally, for this week's Inchie from Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "salmon". I've never really liked that color for some reason. I was having trouble thinking of what to do and so I went grocery shopping. The salmon caught my eye. That's when I realized that the only ones who can afford to eat salmon, for $14.99 a pound, would be the bears!

  1. Love you bear eating the salmon - it is true about the price of salmon! Great drawing. Your leaf is really nice - very fall looking and aquafleur as the leaf is brilliant. I don't know Dex, but your second tile is lovely.

  6. Fall and spring are the two seasons for which I tolerate our oppressive summers and icy winters here in Philadelphia so I understand why you miss the leaves, but judging by your response to the Diva's challenge, you have not forgotten the essence of the fall leaves.

    1. No, I still remember every lovely part of fall. I do kind of like that I am still able to swim every day here even though we're getting close to October!

  8. Love your inchies - so well drawn! Yes, sigh, the price of salmon, my favourite fish....... Love your leaf tangling. I don't have too much time to tangle at the moment, but will come back to it soon enough. I have to - I finally got my Derwent pastels! :)

    1. We really need more hours in a day. Who do we talk to about that? I haven't even touched my Derwent Colorsoft Pencils yet :( Is it possible that we have made just too many commitments? Nah, we'll get to it all someday :)

  10. For awhile there, I envisioned your salmon inche to be just the fish but now, I absolutely love the idea with the bear included! They both look so real as well! I hope you have a good rest of the week Jean!

    1. Thank you, Lexey. My hubby made me redo the fish because he thought it looked too cartoon like. So, I went online and actually looked at a salmon's tail and redid it so it would look more realistic. Sometimes we just have to look before we draw :)

    1. Thank you, Cathy. This is the first time I used my airbrush on a Zentangle tile and I really like the vividness of the colors. I was going to do different tangles in sections but Aquafleur just jumped on the leaf! Sometimes it just happens that way.

  16. As always your respond to the inchies is so unique, and yet so true.... I always smile when I open your post to see what you made this time. Your leaf has beautiful autumncolors, and what a great Idea to do aquafleur around the leaf... I love that tangle probably because I was at the seminar were it was launched... Great work.

    1. HAHA, Diana! I DO try to find something a bit different if I can. Sometimes it's not that easy though. They launched Quib at my seminar and I see that as a squirming Hollibaugh, so it's not one of my favorites. I do love Aquafleur though. I think it is a beautiful tangle. And, thanks for always leaving such nice comments :)

  18. Dear Jean, you made a beautiful rendition of a leaf for the Diva challenge this week and the Square one responses are just fine! The bear looks realistic, especially since they are a hungry sort. Great response to the EIM. Have a brilliant day! c

  19. Beautiful Diva Challenge Tile, Jean. I love the way you used the Copic/Airbrush technique. So effective and unlimited potential. Love the overall design of your leaf and the patterns you used. Your Inchie is awesome. Great Post.

    1. Thank you, David. I did some snowflakes in my journal yesterday but the color was much softer on that paper. The Zentangle tiles just soaked up that Copic goodness.

  22. Jean, as soon as I saw your leaf tile, I said to myself, "oh My, that background looks as thought were airbrushed!!" Awesome job!!! It is beautiful! I use to airbrush fingernails when I was a manicurist. Andnow your salmon Inchie, is to die for! (no pun intended) great idea. and actually at Costco I can buy a nice fillet of salmon and feed 8 people with healthy sized portions for $28 dollars! Much cheaper than taking them all out to dinner! Thank God for Costco!!! :0) Beautiful work!!! :0) Share humanity

    1. Thanks, Annette. This is the first time I tried airbrushing on a real Zentangle tile and it seems to be softer and really soaks up that color. I suppose it's because it is really quality watercolor paper and it was meant to be used with color, not just a pen.
When I first met my hubby, he asked me what my favorite restaurant was. I said MacDonald's. He said, no no, a real restaurant, I said, Costco. He didn't understand that I can make a nice meal at home. When I go out, I want JUNK! So, now that we are retired, we go to Costco to get the $1.50 hot dog and drink (never mind that we usually spend a couple of hundred on things we didn't go there to get HAHA)

  26. Love your tile for the Diva challenge. Your use of Aquafleur is exquisite. I like the second tile for your Square one work and the bear eating the salmon is great. I laughed at the reasoning behind your inchie, and then agreed whole-heartedly.
