Zentangle®, a 3Z, Paradox, Diva Dance, and Bucky

This week the challenge, from I am the Diva, is to do a duotangle using Paradox and Diva Dance. Laura included a nice video from Rick and Maria showing an example of how to combine these tangles in a Hollibaugh style. Mine is fairly simple since it is the first time that I am using a 3Z tile. It was fun to do though.

The focus tangle for Square One, Facebook, is to use Bucky. This is a tangle that I don't think I have ever used as it just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Therefore, I switched the direction of the inner lines and like it more this way. I added Bannah from Sandy Steen Bartholomew, CZT (from her Tangle Cards, Yoga for your Brain), Flux, and Tipple.

I have decided to finally use my beautiful journal from Zentangle.com. I will go through the tangles page by page using different variations that pop onto the page. No preplanning going on here. These are the intro pages that I made to get myself started.

Zentangle® Umble, Auraknot, Diva Dance, and an Inchie

I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's eve! I'm glad though that everything is back to normal and we are ready to get moving on another year. The Diva is back with challenge #249 which is to use a duotangle of Auraknot and Diva Dance. I started the Auraknot and then began to "dance" the lines. When it was complete, it looked a bit empty so I gave the whole thing an aura and added more dancing around the tile. I also added a directional shadow.

Square One's focus tangle on Facebook this week was Umble. This is the one I turned in:

But I actually did this one first. It didn't look too Umbly to me though.

And, a new year for Every Inchie Monday. If you don't do these little gems yet, this is a good time to join us. This week's prompt word is Galaxy. What fun to go to Google and look up Galaxy. I found some unusual ones and selected one called NGC 474. The halo seems to be caused by collisions with other galaxies.I did a background using Color Bursts on white cardstock and then just used my square punch to select my favorite part to work on. I added some white gel pen, white paint pen, and white charcoal. Anything liquid does reactivate the Color Bursts though.

I'm also doing an art journaling group this year called Journal 52. Our first prompt was, word of the year. If you are a crafter/artist using lots of "stuff", you may enjoy my post about my word!

Zentangle® on Vellum, a Labyrinth, and an Inchie

I learned about Clearprint Vellum and the cross country traveling field book from Sandra Strait, Life Imitates Doodles, and just had to put my name on the wait list. I finally got my book this week and decided that as a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher), I should definitely do some tangling. But, as an artist, I really wanted to do something a bit more. This is what I decided on. I used Polychromos colored pencils for her face and shading, and a Sakura Micron 01 for the tangles. 

The Diva Challenge is a doozy this week LOL! Tangle in a Labyrinth. Laura gave a couple of great links, but I found some on You Tube and was able to stop and start, more times than I can count, to finally figure one out. I looked for the easiest one I could find and still messed up a couple of tiles before I got it. Then, I realized that I didn't have enough room to double the lines to add tangles. So, a bit of a Bales/Fife, a couple of Pearls, and I'm calling it finished :)

The Facebook group, Square One, requested the tangle Diva Dance for this week. I love Diva Dance, so this one was easy. Of course, I had to see what it could do and I pushed it into Verve and Paradox.

Every Inchie Monday prompt for this week was "Shell". I thought about the word for a moment and considered all the different ways this word could be used. Since I do so many different forms of art, I settled on, "I wonder how much money I actually shell out for my craft?"

Zentangle® Hitched, XYP, and an Inchie

It's so nice to have the Diva and her challenge back again this week. The first Monday of the month is another UMT (use my tangle) and the tangle was chosen from Heidi Sue, called Hitched. Do give it a try. I added a bit of Pokeroot and Paradox.


Square one tangle this week was XYP from Sandy Steen Bartholomew. I had some fun connecting these and letting some float away. I added some Diva Dance and Msst.

And, after completing one full year of Every Inchie Monday, a new year starts with the word "egg." This is a great time to join us. Small, easy, and fun. Don't put all your eggs in one basket!

Zentangle® Some Leaves and a Salmon Inchie

Oh what fun this week's Challenge from the Diva was. Leaves! Well, I live in the Phoenix area. Our leaves stay on the trees until February and then grow back in February. But, I grew up in the East, so I do remember the glorious colors of fall.

I used my Copics with an airbrush for the background over a silk leaf. Turned it into Aquafleur with a Diva Dance stem. Added some simple Tipple and Meer. Highlights were added to the orange lines with a yellow marker and the shadows are a cream colored marker (Distress). Finally, a bit of Wink of Stella over the black and stem. Yes, a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art)!

Square One: Purely Zentangle on Facebook added DEX to the mix this week. The first one didn't really do it for me so I did a second where I added Pearlz, and Reef by Judy Lehman

And, finally, for this week's Inchie from Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "salmon". I've never really liked that color for some reason. I was having trouble thinking of what to do and so I went grocery shopping. The salmon caught my eye. That's when I realized that the only ones who can afford to eat salmon, for $14.99 a pound, would be the bears!

Gift to Me From Sakura - YUMMY!

Finally I can tell you that I have been chosen by Sakura to represent their products and Zentangle® this year at the AZ Teachers' Conference in November. I had to go through an extensive application process, first through Sakura and then through the AZ committee. It took many months, but I was finally selected. I am so excited. Sakura sent me all the materials (complete Apprentice kit for 26 and much more) I need to teach AZ teachers how to use Zentangle as a classroom tool. I'll let you know how it turns out.


The Challenge this week from the Diva was to use Phicops and Diva Dance as a duotangle. Read all about it here.

 For the Facebook Group, Square One: Purely Zentangle, the tangle to use was Fescu. I added some Rain, Misst, and Jetties. Looks like I prefer my tangles to grow from the bottom up HAHA!

Over at Every Inchie Monday, they called for "Schedule". As you can see I eat while I "Internet" which is most of my day LOL!

Zentangle® a Spill and an Inchie

The Diva Challenge this week is hosted by Amy Brody. I was lucky enough to meet her and her adorable daughter at CZT11 training. Her challenge was to have a "spill" on our tile and tangle on. So, I grabbed my coffee cup and dripped some on my tile. My hubby makes kind of weak coffee, so it didn't do much. Ahah! We had company last week and there was some left over Sangria in the fridge. I liked this spill better.

After I tangled, using W2, Ixorus, Diva Dance, Tipple, and IX, I decided to shade with colored pencils and just a touch of regular pencil. The stain kind of disappeared with these heavier tangles. They do show up more in person rather than a scan though.

The prompt for Every Inchie Monday was "Navy." My original list had it spelled "Navi" which was very interesting, look it up. But, I went with the current spelling and thought of the branch of the military service, and sailors. Did anyone else have one of these "sailor" blouses? I had both the blouse AND a dress!

Zentangle® on This and That and More

After scanning, adjusting photos and such, I have come to realize that I am spending way too much time on absolutely everything except being retired. I thought I would have down time and just relax; however, I have jumped into every challenge, dare, group, trade and more. Sigh. I know many of you can relate HAHA!

Sunday, was the Zendala Dare from The Bright Owl. We were to do our work around something that we are grateful for. I am grateful for many, many things, but I really treasure my friends. That, dear reader, includes you as I think the Zentangle community is just so friendly and sharing and I do so appreciate that you stop by and leave comments.
Monday, I like to see what the Challenge is from The Diva. We were asked to do something with the New Year. I also had one of my new online friends, Annemarie, share some beautiful coasters she had done and I thought I would try one, so I combined the two together to come up with this:

These probably won't include Zentange, though they might. What fun these little pieces of art are. This is my very first one and we were to do "Alice in Blue". Out came my Copics for this one!

Then, of course, I have my Yahoo trades. One was to use a peace sign, one was for ATC's of dressed snowmen (or women), and one was to use only tangles that started with J for January.

Dare # 75, Alice Gets Lost in Wonderland

In week's Zentangle class, my students worked on tangling gardens. Do check out their work on the "Workshop" tab above. I did one of my own by "borrowing" an Internet coloring book picture of Alice and the Cheshire cat and pasting them where I needed them to be in the completed piece on a word document. Then I printed the page out on watercolor paper. Next, I added my tangled garden using pen, ink and Copics.

I thought the pink Mooka looked kind of like the flamingo's used for the croquet game, and Diva Dance worked perfectly for the tree's texture.

The Zendala Dare this week, from Erin and The Bright Owl, was a pretty one. I enjoyed working on it. She also had given us a new tangle to play with called Solow. Do check that out as well.

But It's a Dry Heat

This week's Dare from Erin at The Bright Owl was to do a Zendala using tangles that start with letters either in the word Hot or Heat. Well, living in the Phoenix area of AZ where it was 118 degrees last week, that was a fun one to do. I settled on Hollibaugh, Efilys, Arc Flower and Tidings:

 I also had some fun with some Celtic Knots that were freehand stye a la Patrick Gallagher.

I used Copics and Sharpie pens.



Then, I pulled out some tiles that I had drizzled some rubber cement on. After it dried, I watercolored the sections. After that dried, I rubbed off the rubber cement and tangled.

As you can see, I was still in the Celtic Knot mode a bit.

If you've never tried this, it makes for a fun string.

She does beautiful digital work. I haven't even come close to representing her, but I enjoyed trying.
