Zentangle® Oshun and an Inchie

I did not realize that today was Thanksgiving in Canada. So, no Diva Challenge today. I hope all of our Canadian friends have a great holiday.

Saturday, I did a presentation at the Appaloosa library in Scottsdale, Coloring and Zentangle for Seniors. It was a lot of fun and very successful. If you missed the first one, and are a senior living in Scottsdale, I will be doing a second presentation on October 20th at the Civic Center Library. Do call and reserve a spot as they are almost full.

Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Oshun, by Sandy Steen Bartholomew. I placed it in the corners and then allowed Quib to grow from each side.

Every Inchie Monday's word is Direction.
You have BRAINS in your head, You have feet in your shoes,
You can steer yourself any direction you choose." Dr. Seuss

From Oh, the Places You'll Go! I never tired of reading any of Dr. Seuss' wisdom to my children. (This is from the cover.) If you've never read it, you should. Excerpts.

Thank you for stopping by. I will post the Diva Challenge tomorrow. Hope to see you again then.

Chaz, Zentangle®, Step-Outs

I have been thinking of my tangle, Chaz, lately and thought I would repost the steps for it. This is a copy/paste from the "Jean's Way" tab on the top bar.

June 2013 at CZT training.

I actually have taught this pattern for over 30 years. Not as Zentangle, but as a fun thing for my students to do when I was an elementary school art teacher. When I saw the hanging light while at lunch during my CZT training, I knew I had to present it to the whole group. Everyone, including Rick and Maria, liked Chaz!

Please let me know if this pattern already exists and I will remove it immediately

Based on this.

Zentangle® Dreamcatcher, Florez, and an Inchie

As it is the first Monday of the month, I am the Diva has given us a Use My Tangle from Daniel Lamonthe called Dreamcatcher. Fun and easy tangle to expand upon. I chose to round my edges and then began to play within the shapes. Some Tagh crept in and then a few angular leaves.
I used Prismacolors and a brown Micron on a Renaissance tile.
Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Florez by Andrea Shaman. Another fun tangle to play with.
And, finally, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word is Dinosaur. Hard to fit a dinosaur on a one inch piece of paper so I selected the Microraptor found in China that was only 16" in size and thought to be the smallest dinosaur. It lived in trees and had several birdlike features. Since no one really knows what colors dinosaurs were, no selfies, I took some liberties!

Zentangle® Zenga, Garlic Cloves, and an Inchie

The Challenge at I am the Diva is to use only straight lines. I had to smile as she suggested doing Crescent Moon with only straight lines. Any of my students can tell you that I recommend pushing all tangles to the limit, including changing curves to straight lines starting with Crescent Moon. Studies like this give you power over "OOPS" (which doesn't happen in Zentangle). I learned this from Suzanne McNeill, CZT, who assures us that she has created many new tangles from improvising on an oops. So, I had been thinking of Showgirl a lot this week and decided to push it. If you change a tangle a bit it is called a variation, if you change it a lot it is called a tangelation, and if you change it so much that the original tangle is totally unrecognizable, it is now a new tangle. I believe I may have done that. If this tangle already exists, please let me know and I will give that person proper credit. I named my tangle Zenga because it reminds me of a popular, balancing of wood pieces, game :)

Here is the tile again with the step outs. As you can see, one section I allowed Zenga to repeat as a fill and then break off. I added some Static and inner aura triangles.
Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Garlic Cloves by Jacquelien Bredenoord. I completed the edges with a Showgirl style. Yes, I am really pushing Showgirl to to as much as I can.
And, Every Inchie Monday has a prompt word of Briefcase. Well, this one was so hard to find something different. Finally, I found that there was a reality show called The Briefcase at one time. From what I read about it, it was a cruel show that offered down and out families a briefcase full of money that they needed badly. Then, they presented them with a family that needed it more than they and asked them to give some or all to the other family. For some reason, they thought people would be amused at seeing this. But, the inchie was fun to make. What would you do with a briefcase full of lots of money?

Zentangle® Mindfully, Fife, Showgirl, and an Inchie

Laura, from I am the Diva, suggested that we slow down and do Zentangle the way it was intended and the way we were taught as Certified Zentangle Teachers. I know I am quite guilty of rushing through challenges and prepping tiles for classes myself and don't spend nearly enough time doing Zentangle the way it was intended. So, this morning I got my cup of coffee, turned off my computer and just tangled. No masterpiece in mind. It was relaxing, as it should be. Hope you will try it too!
I used Tidal, Pendrills, and Pea-Nuckle.

The focus tangle for Square One, Facebook, is to use Fife. I found that letting it just wander freely made for an interesting look.

Since I love color and one of my students has requested a bit of help with Showgirl by Vicki Basset, I did this monotangle adding some Polychromos colored pencil to the blue Micron pen.

And, finally, Every Inchie Monday has a prompt of Infinity. I just couldn't get this out of my mind and had to do it LOL! My boys loved this movie!

Thanks for stopping by. I love reading your comments!

Zentangle® Tripoli, Crezendo, Marguerite, and an Inchie

The challenge from Laura at I am the Diva is to do a monotangle of Tripoli. I did mine on a Renaissance tile and used some Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencils.

The focus tangle for Square One, Facebook is Crezendo by Pam Hurtz Miller, CZT. I added Marguerite by Sharon Paz.
And the prompt word for Every Inchie Monday is "Sky". Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Comes from the song.... First one that knows the answer is the first one!

Thanks for stopping by. I truly enjoy reading your comments!

Zentangle® Center Square, Beeline, and an Inchie

I hope all of you who celebrate Labor Day had a wonderful one. Mine was quiet with a long afternoon swim. The Diva did not post yesterday, but today at I am the Diva, the UMT (use my tangle) comes to us from Aleesha Sattva, CZT, and is called Center Square. I felt like using color and made mine into a patchwork quilt with added Vitruvius and Courant.
The focus tangle from Square One, Facebook, is Beeline. I added Hurry and Cadent.
And, the prompt word at Every Inchie Monday is "Mice". When I was a music teacher, my students loved it when I let them sing a variation of "Three Blind Mice" called "Three Miopic Rodents"!

Thank you so much for stopping by. I truly enjoy reading your comments.
