Zentangle® a Card with Aquafleur

Short and sweet this week. The selected tangle at I am the Diva this week is Aquafleur. I have a very special fondness for this tangle as it was the one presented at my CZT training four years ago. Who couldn't love something directly learned from the masters?

Copics, Stamps, and Die Cuts Used

I stamped the image with a light colored Momento Ink in pink. Added the Aquafleur using a Copic Multiliner in pink, then added the Copics. The background was created using a Gelli Plate, and some clear sequins were added. The butterfly and the blue paper are popped up for dimension on this shaped card.


The focus tangle for Square One on Facebook is Flez, by Lori Howe (Sorry, no link as it is posted on Flickr,) I added some Verve and Bunzo.

Zentangle® Dansk, Verve, Showgirl, and Dew Drops

I was so pleased to see CZT Margaret Bremner's Dansk pop up on I am the Diva for this week's challenge. I immediately thought of Verve for the centers and built up from there. Of course, I had to criss-cross rather than go under each one. I used a die cut from Stampin Up to create the shape for filling.

I used Polychromos colored pencils for the darker blues and a pastel pencil for shading.

Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Showgirl by Vicki Bassett to which I added Quib.

And, feeling like doing a couple of dew drops, I grabbed a 3Z tile and did some very simple tangles so I could put my focus on the dew drops.

Zentangle® Some Mac 'n Cheese

This week over at I am the Diva, the challenge is to use our favorite tangles. Our "go to" tangles. Our "mac "n cheese"! Fun and no pressure at all. I selected Mooka, Bunzo, Verve, and Tipple. All my favorites and easy for me to do.

The focus tangle from Square One on Facebook is Nuwave by Beth Snoderly. Again, I played with a variation of Footlights.










And, this week I really wanted to try  making some bubbles with Copic markers. I used Sandy Steen Bartholomew’s Buttercup, Carole Ohl's Footlights, and then added my bubbles for fun.

Zentangle® Skye, Bales, and an Inchie

Skye, by CZT Margaret Bremner, is the tangle chosen by I Am the Diva this week. I have been seeing several beautiful compositions recently using this tangle but hadn't gotten around to trying it. What a fun tangle. It does require a bit of concentration though, so be ready to devote some time to it the first few times around. I added some Fife and Betweed.

Facebook's Square One's focus tangle of the week is Bales. An old favorite! I added Verve, another favorite of mine.

Humm, now that I post them both I can see some similarities. Must be getting into a rut LOL!

Every Inchie Monday's prompt word is Robot. I'm showing my age when I admit to watching Lost in Space with Will Robinson Dr. Smith.

Zentangle® Boo*Kee, Artoo, Narwal, and an Inchie

The Diva, over at I am the Diva, asked us to use two tangles that are named after her children. Boo*Kee and Artoo. Who couldn't want to do tangles named after those two cuties?









For Square One, Facebook group, the focus tangle is Narwal. I added Purk, 'Nzeppel, and Verve.

Every Inchie Monday has a prompt of "earth" this week. I found some very interesting facts about our earth as I researched to find something that I didn't already know. Did you know that there are some places that there is less gravity than others? And did you know that the earth isn't actually round?

Old is New Again

If you are looking for my normal Monday post, you will find it here.  The Diva did not post on Monday, as it was a holiday. Today though, she posted that we should find one of our original Zentangle pieces and see how much we may have (or not) improved. Or, The Ghost of Tangles Past. I recognized that I had done Verve. I think I tried Zander, and I'm not really sure about the others. So, I guessed Beelight, Flukes, and I added Footlites (Carole Ohl) to the top since I had absolutely no idea what it was supposed to be. I actually think my Verve was better almost 4 years ago!

Do try to remember what the real purpose of Zentangle is. Relax, enjoy, and appreciate whatever stage you may feel you, because the finished product is NOT the goal of Zentangle. This was a really fun journey down memory lane though as I pulled out old tiles and papers. I find that I love the process of tangling in a relaxing meditative state as much as ever.

Zentangle® Gourdgeous, Verve, and an Inchie

The Diva Challenge this week is to use the new tangle Gourdgeous. I used a black tile for this and added a bed of 'Nzepple. I used my Slicci pens to tangle, Conte pastels for shading, and a white gel pen for the dotted lines.

The focus tangle for Square One was to use Verve. Since I use Verve so often, I thought I would see what happens when you start with a square instead of a circle. These squares were turned into Cubine. I also ended the shading with squares to balance out the piece.

Every Inchie Monday had a prompt word of "emotion". This was so interesting to research. Tibetan Buddhist psychology believes that there are two types of emotion: one to express and one to control. Sensible. I also read that some emotions are actually cultural! My image is not original, but it really represented the swings of emotion.

Zentangle® Verve, Jonqal, and an Inchie

I am the Diva's guest this week is Sharla Hicks, CZT. She asked us to undulating tangles with C and S forms. I love Verve and thought I would do a grouping of them with pearls as the centers and a few scattered about with some ribbons.

Square One, Facebook, has a focus tangle of Jonqal. I had to add a few Tipple too.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt work is "lamp"! From the Statue of Liberty, "I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Zentangle® Some Tipple, Meer, and an Inchie

The Diva posted her last challenge before her summer break; however, I am looking forward to some guest challenges in her absence. This last challenge was to use Tipple. Tipple was a tangle that I really didn't like for the longest time. I thought you had to go all around a string section and then fill in, almost forced like a grid. When I allowed Tipple to just float and fall, I fell in love with this tangle, and you will see it often in my work. Rain is the tangle that the Tipple is spilling through.




Square One, Facebook, had Meer as the tangle for this week. I find that Meer can be another confining tangle if you let it, so I allowed it to expand and have a bit more freedom. I added a tiny Verve in the top corner for some additional interest.

And, the prompt word for Every Inchie Monday this week, is Enjoy. There is a song by Martin Lee Gore called Enjoy the Silence. I sure know that after years of working in a noisy environment, I sure do enjoy the silence.

Happy St. Patrick's Day in Zentangle®, Some Oof, and an Inchie

The Diva Challenge #209 was to use green. You know I love a challenge and like to try to think outside of the box. Not today. The gray cells are not in motion. So, I actually did the first think I thought of, a Shamrock. I kept it simple with just Verve and Betweed. I used two different Sharpie pens in green, a Koi coloring brush pen for the surround, shading with Fabrico gray and dots with a white gel pen.




Facebook's Square One tangle of the week was Oof to which I added Jetties and Fescu.

And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt word was "nail". Again, keeping it simple.

Zentangle® Strings, Tipple vs Perfs, and an Inchie

For this week's challenge, # 187, the Diva asked us to do our string with our eyes closed. This is the string I made.





Which turned into this.

Half a Verve, direction changing Facade, Mooka, Onamato, Squid, and some embellishments. 













Square One: Purely Zentangle®,  had us working with Betweed. I had someone ask the difference between Tipple and perfs, so I added some perfs (pearl like dots around a tangle as used in old manuscripts) and a couple of auras.

 And, for Every Inchie Monday, the prompt was "Throne". Well, you know I wanted to do the porcelain throne, but thought too many would go that direction, so I had to dig deeper. I found some interesting things about angelic hierarchies and throne angels. I did the first one using oil pastels with the scratch method of layering black over lighter colors then scraping off. But, I wasn't sure it cold be seen as an angel, so I did another with a Copic sprayed background and gel pens.

Zentangle® Creatively and an Inchie

I would request that you get your imagination in gear and try to see where I was going with this week's challenges. My faithful followers know I just love to step outside the box just to see what a tangle can do. This week, Challenge 184, the Diva asked us to use the new official tangle Ing. Well, I was show a tangler friend of mine how to do it. She is not a friend of grids or geometric tangles, so I had to show her how to turn this into an organic tangle. I added a bit of Fescu, Tipple, and half a Verve. I know many of you will see things in this one.

I finally decided to post the first one I did where I took Ing down the center and then just kind of let it keep exploding. I kind of got a bit lost along the way :) I added a bit of 'Nzeppel to the triangles of the wandering pieces.

 The Facebook group, Square One, Purely Zentangle®,  had Quib as this week's tangle. I added Courant, Mysteria and Verve

And, again with a request for you to use your imagination, the prompt for this week's Every Inchie Monday was RED. We buy big boxes of Tootsie Roll Pops, but I only eat the red (well, sometimes the brown, but that would ruin my entry!) I am still playing with quilling and my quilling friends should click on the top and go to my Copics and Paper Fun page and see the Christmas tree I quilled. No great at it yet, but having fun learning something new.

Zentangle® with Bijou, Link to Alpha Tangle Tangled Cards, and an Inchie

The Diva's weekly challenge #179 was "Be like Bijou" the new twinchie sized tile (2 inches) from Zentangle®. I couldn't get the spiral shape of Bijou, the snail, out of my mind, so I just went with it:
 
 Sandy Steen Bartholomew has a new set of tangle cards called Alpha Tangle Tangled Cards that you will just love. Do hop over with the link on her name to find out all about them. She is even having a contest. Just do a tile using official Zentangle tangles and use your name as a string. Here's mine:

Zentangle® a Comfort Tangle, and an Inchie

This week, fellow CZT, Sharla Hicks, stepped in to help the Diva. She asked us to go back to some of our favorite tangles and mess with them in size, shape, color and/or shading. What's not to love there? (She also added some great tutorials. Go to the link and follow to her blog.) The first one I did using a modified Verve with pointed ends and larger Tipple surrounded by the typical smaller ones. I used Derwent Inktense and applied some of the concepts that I am currently learning about with watercolors. It seemed to be missing something, so I added some grey colored pencil. Then, I went on to number two. This one I took Verve and Printemps and squared them using a Sharpie Ultra Fine in Turquoise. I then found an old pastel pencil, CarbOthello, #51 to do the shading. I liked this one a lot more, you?

The Inchie, from Every Inchie Monday, was to use the prompt Maid. Well, Minute Maid orange juice, of course :)

Circles, an Inchie, and Zentangle® Meets Art Journaling

This week, the Dive Challenged us to use circles. Since, in the USA, we are celebrating Memorial Day, I thought I would ignore the Zentangle police banging on my door for using a compass and pull out some red and blue pens LOL! I couldn't resist putting some non-Zentangle stars in there and some Distress Ink in Barn Door too :)
